  1. 11. Involvement of the immune system in phytohaemagglutinin-induced structural and functional precocious maturation of the gut in young rats

    Author : Olena Prykhodko; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytokines; mucosa; development; Gastrointestinal tract; mammals; immune system; T-cells;

    Abstract : Mammals are born with an immature gastrointestinal (GI) tract that allows the uptake of the specific nutrients and bioactive macromolecules in the milk, especially the protecting maternal antibodies. Eventually during weaning, the intake of milk decreases while that of solid food increases, and the GI system undergoes prominent structural and functional changes adapting the young this dietary change. 2. 12. Development of the gastrointestinal tract in young mammals : Effects of enteral provocation with protease or phytohaemagglutinin in neonatal rats

    Author : Ester Arevalo Sureda; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : gut; Intestine; Pancreas; development; precocious; protease; PHA; enterocytes; permeability; endocytosis; IgG; FcRn; Blimp1; T-lymphocyte; passive immunity; altricial; neonatal; suckling; athymic; rat; immunohistochemistry IHC ;

    Abstract : The rat, as an altritial species, is born with an immature gastrointestinal tract and intestinal barrier function, which is highly absorptive to milk-borne bioactive molecules that can pass undigested and reach the general circulation of the suckling newborn. This passage occurs by the neonatal-Fc-receptor (FcRn) binding and trancytosis of immunoglobulin G in the proximal small intestine (SI) and by the highly endocytic vacuolated enterocytes non-selectively in the distal SI. 3. 13. Palaeodiet and Infant Feeding in Coastal Arctic Settlements : Insights from stable isotope analysis of bone and dentine collagen and amino acids

    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Arctic; palaeodiet; Inuit; Yup’ik; infant feeding; domestic dogs; amino acids; collagen; stable isotopes; maintenance activities; gender; arkeologi med inriktning mot laborativ arkeologi; Scientific Archaeology;

    Abstract : This dissertation investigates the day-to-day activities that sustained human societies in the arctic and subarctic environments of North America and Siberia over the past 1500 years. Maintenance activities, such as food preparation, childcare, and the care of domestic animals, are commonly inflected by social identity and can provide insight into the experience of gender among archaeological and historical populations.
