16. Alternatives to pickling : preparation of carbon and low alloyed steel wire rod
Abstract : A well established method for scale removal on hot rolled wire rod is pickling. To avoid pollution problems, the wire rod can be mechanically descaled. By this method, the removed scale can be recirculated to the blast furnace. In batch pickling considerable energy is necessary; e. READ MORE

17. Mechanical track deterioration due to lateral geometry irregularities
Abstract : This thesis deals with how a degraded track geometry influences further degradation of the geometry and the formation of rolling contact fatigue (RCF) and wear of rails. The overall objective is optimisation of railway maintenance. For this, further understanding and quantification of the deterioration of track components are needed. READ MORE

18. Effects of loading mechanisms and texture on ore breakage – A multidimensional study
Abstract : In comminution machines, the product properties (particle size distribution, mineral liberation characteristics) and process consumables (energy for size reduction, wear) are affected by various parameters. On the one hand, understanding and optimizing these parameters can provide an energy efficient process and a specified product. READ MORE

19. Microstructure of a cubic boron nitride tool material before and after hard turning
Abstract : AbstractPolycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) materials are widely used in turning of hardened steels due to their beneficial mechanical properties like high hardness at elevated temperatures and, compared to diamond, for being more chemically stable towards iron at temperatures typical for turning operations (800-1000˚C). The wear of PCBN tools is influenced by several factors, like machining parameters, different tool geometries and varying composition of PCBN tools as well as workpiece material. READ MORE

20. Influence of rail, wheel and track geometries on wheel and rail degradation
Abstract : For more efficient railway maintenance there is a need to increase the understanding of the influence of operational conditions on wheel and rail degradation. To this end, the chosen primary investigation strategy is to employ dynamic multibody simulations, where operational conditions are altered, to estimate the influence on material deterioration.
