1. Computational Insights into Atomic Scale Wear Processes in Cemented Carbides
Abstract : As Ti-alloys become more and more utilized the need for efficient and robust manufacturing of Ti-alloy components increase in importance. Ti-alloys are more difficult to machine than e.g. steel, mainly due to their poor thermal conductivity leading to rapid tool wear. READ MORE

2. The role of head size in total hip arthroplasty - Dislocation, wear and cup stability
Abstract : Large heads are used in total hip arthroplasty, with the aim of reducing the risk of dislocation, but there are concerns related to polyethylene wear, corrosion and cup loosening. Paper I is an observational study that aimed to investigate whether the transition from 28-mm to 32-mm heads and thereafter to 36-mm heads in patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA) after osteoarthritis has been followed by a reduction in dislocation rates in the Nordic countries. 3. High Temperature Wear Processes
Abstract : Moving machine assemblies are increasingly exposed to extreme operating conditions involving high temperatures owing to demands on higher power densities, high performance/efficiency and extreme environments. The changes in surface and near surface properties of contacting surfaces caused by exposure to high temperature and deformation govern the occurrence of friction, wear and material transfer of the tribological system. 4. Some Aspects of Wear and Structural Dynamics
Abstract : The topic of this thesis is dynamics and wear of structures. In the six appended papers different aspects of wear and dynamics of a model system are studied. The considered system consists of a long slender rod with unilateral supports, subject to harmonic and stochastic excitation. READ MORE

5. On wear transitions in the wheel-rail contact
Abstract : Wear transitions in the wheel–rail contact are of increasing interest since the general trend in railway traffic is toward increased velocities and axle loads. Curving increases the risk of flanging, causing the contact to change from an almost pure rolling wheel tread–rail head contact to more of a sliding wheel flange–rail gauge contact on the high rail in curves.
