  1. 1. Very Low Bitrate Video Communication : A Principal Component Analysis Approach

    Author : Ulrik Söderström; Haibo Li; Luis Torres; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Video compression; Very low bitrate; Principal component analysis; Complexity; Semantically important areas; Wearable video; Other electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Övrig elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik;

    Abstract : A large amount of the information in conversations come from non-verbal cues such as facial expressions and body gesture. These cues are lost when we don't communicate face-to-face. But face-to-face communication doesn't have to happen in person. With video communication we can at least deliver information about the facial mimic and some gestures. READ MORE

  2. 2. Wearable sensors for monitoring epilepsy and Parkinson´s disease

    Author : Dongni Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epilepsy; Parkinson’s disease; Wearable sensors; Continuous and objective monitoring; End users’ perceptions; Qualitative content analysis; Machine learning algorithms; Tonic-clonic seizure detection; Dose titration; Motor state recognition;

    Abstract : Introduction: Epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease (PD) are conditions where management would benefit greatly from monitoring symptoms over longer time periods in natural everyday environments instead of only intermittent assessments at clinics. Wearable technology with built-in sensors such as accelerometers and gyroscopes, could allow continuous and objective long-term monitoring of movement patterns. READ MORE

  3. 3. Communication, with and through wearable computers

    Author : Marcus Nilsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pervasive Mobile Computing; Distribuerade datorsystem;

    Abstract : This thesis presents research on wearable computers and their usage in communication. The wearable computer is looked upon as a tool for communication between people but also on how it can be used in communication with the environment. READ MORE

  4. 4. Wearable computer interaction issues in mediated human to human communication

    Author : Mikael Drugge; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pervasive Mobile Computing; Distribuerade datorsystem;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the use of wearable computers as mediators for human to human communication. The user of a wearable computer can deliver live video, audio and commentary from a remote location, allowing local participants to experience it and interact with people on the other side. 5. 5. Ambulatory Monitoring and Analysis of Surface Electromyographic Signals in Ergonomic Field Studies - Methods and Applications

    Author : Leif Sandsjö; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Trapezius; ergonomic assessment tools; long-term recording; wearable systems; EMG; musculoskeletal disorders; work-related;

    Abstract : Factors contributing to and the mechanisms behind the development of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are still not fully known. Increased knowledge in this area is necessary in order to recommend appropriate actions to counteract the increasing costs to society and reduce the individual suffering related to these problems.
