  1. 1. Mechanisms structuring the pelagic microbial food web : Importance of resource and predation

    Author : Kristina Samuelsson; Agneta Andersson; Christiane Lancelot; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; pelagic microbial food web; bacteria; flagellates; ciliates; phytoplankton; mixotrophy; nutrient status; predation limitation; resource limitation; Baltic Sea; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Abstract : Temporal and spatial variations of pelagic microorganisms in the northern Baltic Sea were studied, as well as factors influencing their abundance and growth rates. Three main questions were asked 1) How does increased productivity influence the structure of the microbial food web? 2) Does predation limitation vary between trophic levels? 3) What is the relative importance of resource and predation limitation at different trophic levels?A field study in the northern Baltic Sea showed that dominating protozoa, flagellates and ciliates, increased with increasing primary productivity from north to south. 2. 2. Pelagic microorganisms in the northern Baltic Sea : Ecology, diversity and food web dynamics

    Author : Johnny Berglund; Agneta Andersson; Ramon Massana; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; resource limitation; predation limitation; microbial food web; heterotrophic microorganisms; nanoflagellates; ciliates; protists; resource heterogeneity; chrysomonads; chrysophytes; group-specific PCR-DGGE primers; Baltic Sea; Marine ecology; Marin ekologi;

    Abstract : Heterotrophic microorganisms are important for the flow of carbon and nutrients in the sea. Bacteria, nanoflagellates and ciliates are relevant components of the pelagic food web. In order to be able to predict the outcome of e.g. READ MORE

  3. 3. Decentralized resource brokering for heterogeneous grid environments

    Author : Johan Tordsson; Erik Elmroth; Bo Kågström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Grid computing; Resource brokering; interoperability; advance reservations; coallocation; Web services; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : The emergence of Grid computing infrastructures enables researchers to share resources and collaborate in more efficient ways than before, despite belonging to different organizations and being distanced geographically. While the Grid computing paradigm offers new opportunities, it also gives rise to new difficulties. READ MORE

  4. 4. An Evaluation Platform for Semantic Web Technology

    Author : Cécile Åberg; Nahid Shahmehri; Patrick Lambrix; Lena Strömbäck; Welf Löwe; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Semantic Web; Semantic Web services; service discovery; service description languages; Workflow; evaluation; sButler; OWL-DTP; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : The vision of the Semantic Web aims at enhancing today's Web in order to provide a more efficient and reliable environment for both providers and consumers of Web resources (i.e. information and services). READ MORE

  5. 5. Active Resource Management in Middleware and Service-oriented Architectures

    Author : Niklas Widell; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Telekommunikationsteknik; Telecommunication engineering; Intelligent Networks; TINA; web systems; distributed systems; resource allocation; stochastic optimization; simulation models; performance analysis; overload control; load balancing;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we study load balancing and overload control in two distributed architectures: Distributed Object Computing (DOC) systems and Services-oriented Architecture (SOA) systems. While DOC and SOA have differences in terms of implementation, they are similar from a performance viewpoint. READ MORE
