  1. 1. Weichselian glaciations in the middle Notec River region, northwest Poland

    University dissertation from Quaternary Sciences, Department of Geology, Lund University

    Author : Gert Pettersson; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2002]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quaternary Geology; Kvartärgeologi; Geology; Geologi; Vistulian; Weichselian; Lithostratigraphy; Poland; Chodziez; Clast lithology; Clast fabrics; Deglaciation; Ice stream; Sedimentology; Sedimentologi; geomorphology; klimatologi; geomorfologi; climatology;

    Abstract : This thesis presents results of studies on the ice flow pattern and ice movement mechanism during the Weichselian glaciations in the middle Notec River area, NW Poland. A new lithostratigraphy of the study area has been established, based on correlation of stratigraphical position, clast lithology, fabrics and grain size composition of till units. READ MORE

  2. 2. Vegetation and climate during Weichselian ice free intervals in northern Sweden Interpretations from fossil and modern pollen records

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Institutionen för naturgeografi och kvartärgeologi

    Author : Martina Hättestrand; Stockholms universitet.; [2008]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Weichselian; interstadial; stadial; glacial history; northern Sweden; Tärendö; Riipiharju; Rissejauratj; Veiki moraine; pollen analysis; pollen deposition; pollen trap; PAR; NATURAL SCIENCES Earth sciences Exogenous earth sciences Quaternary geology; NATURVETENSKAP Geovetenskap Exogen geovetenskap Kvartärgeologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis the Weichselian history of northern Sweden is investigated, with emphasis on vegetation and climate during ice-free intervals. The main method used has been pollen analysis of sediments from pre-Late Weichselian landforms. To interpret fossil pollen assemblages, comparisons with modern pollen spectra were made. READ MORE

  3. 3. Marginal behaviour of the last Scandinavian Ice Sheet during its final termination and deglaciation over Northeastern Germany

    University dissertation from Quaternary Sciences, Department of Geology, Lund University

    Author : Joachim Albrecht; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; climatology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Physical geography; Marginal dome; Deglaciation; Clast lithology; Clast fabric; Germany; Pomeranian; Weichselian; Lithostratigraphy; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; Sedimentology; Sedimentologi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents results from studies on geomorphology, lithostratigraphy and ice flow patterns during the final termination and deglaciation of the last Scandinavian Ice Sheet in NE Germany. Ice flow patterns derived from till fabrics and glaciotectonical data indicate that short-lived marginal domes had formed during the advance and the retreat of the last Scandinavian Ice Sheet in NE Germany. 4. 4. Mountain centered icefields in northern Scandinavia

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Institutionen för naturgeografi och kvartärgeologi

    Author : Ola Fredin; Stockholms universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Scandinavia; Quaternary; Weichselian; mountain; icefield; ice sheet; NATURAL SCIENCES Earth sciences Exogenous earth sciences Physical geography; NATURVETENSKAP Geovetenskap Exogen geovetenskap Naturgeografi;

    Abstract : Mountain centered glaciers have played a major role throughout the last three million years in the Scandinavian mountains. The climatic extremes, like the present warm interglacial or cold glacial maxima, are very short-lived compared to the periods of intermediate climate conditions, characterized by the persistence of mountain based glaciers and ice fields of regional size. 5. 5. Pollen analysis, chronology and palaeomagnetism of three Late Weichselian sites in southern Sweden

    University dissertation from Department of Quaternary Geology, Lund University

    Author : Jonas Ising; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2001]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; southern Sweden; calendar year chronology; Late Weichselian; Pollen stratigraphy; palaeomagnetic secular variations; Geology; physical geography; Geologi; fysisk geografi;

    Abstract : Three sites, Torreberga in Skåne, Farslycke in Blekinge and Lake Bolmen in Småland, with Late Weichselian lake sediments were studied with respect to pollen analysis and palaeomagnetism. The chronologies are based on pollen stratigraphical correlations, radiocarbon dating and, for two of the sites, on a clay-varve chronology. READ MORE
