  1. 6. Hormone-related dietary factors and estrogen/progesterone-receptor defined postmenopausal breast cancer

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology

    Author : Reiko Suzuki; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2006]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast cancer; ER; PR; alcohol; body weight; dietary fiber; dietary lignans;

    Abstract : Breast cancer is the most common invasive cancer among women in Western countries including Sweden. It has been hypothesized that ovarian hormones, such as estrogen and progesterone may, at least partly, play an important role in the etiology of breast cancer. READ MORE

  2. 7. Domestic violence during pregnancy in Uganda : The social biomedical consequenses and the relationship with induced abortion

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Public Health Sciences

    Author : Dan K Kaye; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2006]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adolescents; Coping strategies; Domestic violence; Decision-making; Hospitalization; Induced abortion; Low birth weight; Obstetric complications; Pregnancy; Risk factors; Social construction; Social context; Uganda.;

    Abstract : Objectives: The specific objectives were to 1) determine the prevalence and predictors of domestic violence during pregnancy, 2) explore community perceptions of factors associated with domestic violence in Wakiso district of Uganda; 3) explore pregnant adolescents experiences and coping strategies regarding violence;4) investigate the association between domestic violence, pregnancy intention and induced abortion; and 5) investigate whether domestic violence during pregnancy is associated with obstetric complications (leading to antepartum hospitalization) or low birth weight (LBW) delivery. Methods: Paper I was a cross-sectional study among 379 women attending antenatal clinic in Mulago hospital, Kampala, Uganda, from January to May 2000, to assess risk factors, nature and severity of domestic violence during pregnancy. 3. 8. Cost Optimization of Aircraft Structures

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Markus Kaufmann; KTH.; [2009]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aircraft structures; optimization; cost estimation; manufacturing cost; direct operating cost; multiobjective optimization; multidisciplinary optimization; composites; airframe design; TECHNOLOGY Engineering mechanics Vehicle engineering; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Teknisk mekanik Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : Composite structures can lower the weight of an airliner significantly. Due to the higher process complexity and the high material cost, however, the low weight often comes with a significant increase in production cost. The application of cost-effective design strategies is one mean to meet this challenge. READ MORE

  4. 9. Pregnancy related risk factors for breast cancer

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics

    Author : Gunnar Larfors; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast neoplasms; epidemiology; etiology; pregnancy; hydatidiform mole; hyperemesis; abortion;

    Abstract : Pregnancies offer a life-long reduction in breast cancer risk. It has repeatedly been shown that both number of pregnancies and age at first birth affect the future breast cancer risk. The mechanisms for this protection are still not fully investigated. READ MORE

  5. 10. High Aspect Ratio Microstructures in Flexible Printed Circuit Boards Process and Applications

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Hanna Yousef; Uppsala universitet.; [2008]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering physics; flexible printed circuit boards; polyimide; through-hole vias; ion track technology; thermoelectricity; thermopiles; substrate integrated waveguides; millimeter wave devices; Teknisk fysik; TECHNOLOGY Engineering physics; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : Flexible printed circuit boards (flex PCBs) are used in a wide range of electronic devices today due to their light weight, bendability, extensive wiring possibilities, and low-cost manufacturing techniques. The general trend in the flex PCB industry is further miniaturization alongside increasing functionality per device and reduced costs. READ MORE
