  1. 1. Two facets of Innovation in Engineering Education : The interplay of Student Learning and Curricula Design

    Author : Anders Berglund; Sofia Ritzén; Martin Edin Grimheden; Margareta Norell Bergendahl; William Ion; KTH; []
    Keywords : Engineering education; innovation; design; learning elements; student; change; Ingenjörsutbildning; innovation; design; lärandeelement; student; förändring;

    Abstract : This thesis covers two main perspectives ofinnovation; first, innovation is regarded as an outcome-related mechanism wherelearning is expressed through artefact presentations at the end of adevelopment process; second, innovation comprises a change mechanism in theprocess of student learning, influencing educators to reconsider new methods andpractices. Building on qualitative data from engineering design courses, theaim has been to explore how learning elements in engineering educationinfluence students during early-phase innovation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Transition Technologies for Electrification and Optimisation of Bus Transport Systems

    Author : Dennis Dreier; Viktoria Martin; Dilip Khatiwada; William Usher; Semida Silveira; Mark I. Howells; Hannah Daly; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bus transport system; C40; Decarbonization; Electrification; GHG; Optimization; OSeMOSYS-PuLP; Plug-in hybrid-electric; Systems analysis; Transformation; Busstransportsysstem; C40; Elektrifiering; Koldioxidminskning; Laddhybrid; Optimering; OSeMOSYS-PuLP; Systemanalys; Transformation; Växthusgaser; Energiteknik; Energy Technology;

    Abstract : The topical issue of climate change has increasingly become important as scenarios indicate an increase of 2.5–7.8°C in the global mean temperature by the end of this century, if no greenhouse gas emissions are reduced. READ MORE

  3. 3. Hunting Hydrogen : Structure-property relations in High Entropy Alloy-based metal hydrides

    Author : Gustav Ek; Martin Sahlberg; Ulrich Häussermann; William I.F. David; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrogen; metal-hydride; High Entropy Alloy; Chemistry with specialization in Inorganic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : Metal hydrides have many uses when switching the energy system from fossil fuels to renewable sources, such as rechargeable batteries, hydrogen storage, hydrogen compression and thermal storage. State of the art materials for these applications such as LaNi5 and TiFe, however, suffer certain limitations such as degradation during repeated hydrogen cycling and harsh activation conditions for initial hydrogen uptake, promoting the need for novel materials. 4. 4. Cyanobacterial genome evolution subsequent to domestication by a plant (Azolla)

    Author : John Larsson; Birgitta Bergman; William Martin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Cyanobacteria are an ancient and globally distributed group of photosynthetic prokaryotes including species capable of fixing atmospheric dinitrogen (N2) into biologically available ammonia via the enzyme complex nitrogenase. The ability to form symbiotic interactions with eukaryotic hosts is a notable feature of cyanobacteria and one which, via an ancient endosymbiotic event, led to the evolution of chloroplasts and eventually to the plant dominated biosphere of the globe. Abstract : The energy system is undergoing a transition in many parts of the world with this transition being driven by several factors such as climate change, and economic and social development. Agenda 2030, with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has set the direction on where development should be focussed. READ MORE
