    Abstract : In this dissertation, I analyze understandings and employment of the idea that ‘the personal is political’ and how it appears in feminist politico-theoretical thought and activism in the period from the late 1960s until the middle of 1990s.     Abstract : This dissertation analyses feminist activists’ use of human rights in post-revolutionary Egypt from 2011 to 2019. Drawing on interviews with feminist activists under three fieldwork trips, the dissertation investigates how: activists tried to implement gender equality in the country’s new constitutions, navigated the shrinking public space after 2013, sustained their activism against sexual violence despite a fragmented movement and repressive politics, and how we can understand contentious streets activism against sexual violence from a human rights perspective.     Abstract : Why and how do women engage in peacebuilding efforts across conflict divides? This dissertation coins a novel concept, women-to-women diplomacy – or W2WD – to explore women’s peace activism in Georgia and Myanmar. W2WD consists of three components: 1) the promotion of women’s agency as a key aspect of mobilisation and peacebuilding practices; 2) women’s own experiences of conflict as a basis for bridging divides; and 3) women’s visions of gender equality as a fundamental part of peace.     Abstract : This dissertation provides a study of gender processes in the maternal human rights movement of the Soldiers’ Mothers NGOs, which were created in the arena of the military draft politics in post-Soviet Russia.
