  1. 1. Clinical and arthroscopic assessment of wrist ligament injuries and instability

    Author : Jonny K Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; wrist; wrist arthroscopy; carpal ligaments; scapholunate ligament; lunotriquetral ligament; triangular fibrocartilage complex; distal radio-ulnar joint; instability; magnetic resonance imaging; forearm rotation torque; children; adolescents;

    Abstract : Wrist ligament injuries are common after trauma, especially when concomitant dislocated radius fractures are present. The diagnostics of scapholunate (SL), lunotriquetral (LT) and triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) injuries are challenging and most often dependent on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination or invasive arthroscopy. 2. 2. Ulnar fractures and ligament injuries of the wrist

    Author : Maria Moloney; Lars Adolfsson; Simon Farnebo; Niels Schep; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ulna; Fracture; Wrist; PRWE; Classification;

    Abstract : Falling over on an outstretched hand with the wrist extended is a common accident that can cause a multitude of injuries in the wrist. Research has mainly focused on distal radius fractures while injuries of the distal ulna and adjacent ligaments have taken a back seat. READ MORE

  3. 3. Periulnar Injuries Associated with Distal Radius Fractures

    Author : Johan Scheer; Adolfsson Lars; Magnus Tägil; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Triangular fibrocartilage complex; Distal radius fractures; Wrist injuries; Distal radioulnar joint; Ulnocarpal stability; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Residual dysfunction after a fracture of the distal radius is most often mild but may give rise to significant impairment especially in the younger active population. The symptoms often manifest around the distal ulna when loading the hand or rotating the forearm. READ MORE

  4. 4. Scaphoid fractures : Studies on diagnosis and treatment

    Author : Bertil Vinnars; Bengt Gerdin; Lars Adolfsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Surgery; Scaphoid Bone; Wrist Joint; Wrist Injuries; Fracture Healing; Cost of Illness; Health Care Costs; Outcome Assessment Health Care ; Arthroplasty; Radiography; Health status; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : Scaphoid fracture is most common in young individuals of working age. Without adequate diagnosis and treatment, long-term results are poor. Operative treatment is being recommended increasingly often instead of a long time in cast, although there is no evidence-based support for its superiority. READ MORE

  5. 5. Injuries among the elderly : study of fatal and non-fatal injury events

    Author : Harmeet Sjögren; Ulf Björnstig; Anders Eriksson; Pat Waller; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; elderly; injury; prevention; traffic; home; fall; crash; disease; bicyclist; pedestrian; cost; vehicle;

    Abstract : In view of the expected increase in the proportion of elderly in the population in most western countries, we studied injuries among the elderly (>60 years) by investigating hospital-treated injuries in inpatients and outpatients, and fatal injuries.One-year Hospital Injury Data - Even though the elderly made up only 15% of the injured in one year, they accounted for 42% of the total cost of trauma medical care, showing that injuries among the elderly place a disproportional burden on the health care system.
