36. Model catalysts studied by x-rays, visible and infrared light
Abstract : This work is focused on the study of transition metal model catalysts for gas-phase heterogeneous catalysis, studied with light-based in-situ and operando techniques.Metallic model catalysts, such as Palladium (Pd) and Iridium (Ir) single crystals and in minor part deposited Rhodium (Rh), were studied using a combination of x-ray and non x-ray techniques. 37. Simulations of ultrafast photon-matter interactions for molecular imaging with X-ray lasers
Abstract : Biological structure determination has had new avenues of investigation opened due to the introduction of X-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs). These X-ray lasers provide an extreme amount of photons on ultrafast timescales used to probe matter, and in particular biomolecules. READ MORE

38. Surface Studies of Model Systems relevant for Pd and Ag Catalysts
Abstract : This PhD thesis reports on investigations of the atomic scale structure of model catalysts relevant for the catalytic oxidation of CO and methane over Pd, and NOx reduction over silver-alumina, important reactions in automotive catalysts. By using complementary experimental techniques such as X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, High Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Surface X-ray Diffraction, Low Energy Electron Diffraction, Infrared Spectroscopy, and Scanning Tunneling Microscopy, combined with theoretical calculations, the work presented in this thesis aims at an atomistic characterization of the active sites for silver-alumina and Pd model catalysts which may help to the design of new and improved catalysts. 39. Stacking faults, deformation-induced martensite and micromechanics of metastable austenite in steels studied by high-energy synchrotron X-ray diffraction
Abstract : Austenitic stainless steels are known for their remarkable corrosion resistance and exhibit a very high ductility and toughness. They posses the face centered cubic crystal structure. READ MORE

40. Exploiting reciprocal space : Electron diffraction, textures and precession
Abstract : Electron crystallography emerges as a new tool for accurate structure determination of very small crystals. In order to exploit the full potential of electron diffraction, the methods for data acquisition and processing have to be developed towards the high standards of X-ray crystallography. READ MORE
