  1. 1. Laboratory x-ray fluorescence tomography

    Author : Jakob C. Larsson; Hans Hertz; Anna Burvall; Ulrich Vogt; Norbert Pelc; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; x-ray; fluorescence; x-ray fluorescence; nanoparticle; xrf; xfct; tomography; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : X-ray fluorescence (XRF) tomography is an emerging bio-imaging modality with potential for high-resolution molecular imaging in 3D. In this technique the fluorescence signal from targeted nanoparticles (NPs) is measured, providing information about the spatial distribution and concentration of the NPs inside the object. 2. 2. Synchrotron-based characterization of mechanobiological effects on the nanoscale in musculoskeletal tissues

    Author : Isabella Silva Barreto; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nanoscale; microscale; mechanical properties; synchrotron; x-ray imaging; collagen; hydroxyapatite; biomechanics; experimental mechanics; x-ray tomography; small-angle x-ray scattering SAXS ; wide-angle x-ray scattering WAXS ; x-ray fluorescence XRF ; small-angle x-ray scattering tensor tomography SASTT ; Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy FTIR ; polarized light microscopy PLM ; bone development; Achilles tendon; tendon healing;

    Abstract : Collagen is the main organic building block of musculoskeletal tissues. Despite collagen being their smallest load bearing unit, these tissues differ significantly in mechanical function and properties. A major factor behind these differences is their hierarchical organization, from the collagen molecule up to the organ scale. READ MORE

  3. 3. Imaging Living Cells with an X-ray Laser

    Author : Gijs van der Schot; Tomas Ekeberg; Janos Hajdu; Filipe Maia; Pierre Thibault; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coherent diffractive X-ray imaging; flash X-ray imaging; lensless imaging; single particle imaging; cyanobacteria; phasing; image classification; substrate-free sample delivery; X-ray free-electron laser; XFEL; FEL; CDXI; CDI; CXI; FXI; Chemistry with specialization in Biophysics; Kemi med inriktning mot biofysik;

    Abstract : Imaging living cells at a resolution higher than the resolution of optical microscopy is a significant challenge. Fluorescence microscopy can achieve a degree of super-resolution via labeling cellular components with a fluorescent dye. READ MORE

  4. 4. X-ray and neutron μCT of biomedical samples: from image acquisition to quantification

    Author : Niccoló Peruzzi; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; x-ray imaging; neutron imaging; μCT; synchrotron radiation; x-ray phase-contrast; nanoholotomography; x-ray elemental mapping; biomedical applications; virtual histology; biodegradable implants; Mg-alloys; enteric nervous system; peripheral neuropathy; gastroenteric dysmotility; Fysicumarkivet A:2021:Peruzzi;

    Abstract : Even though the validity of x-ray computed tomography in the analysis of biomedical samples is nowadays undisputed, the more recent imaging techniques and more advanced instruments (such as synchrotrons) are still relatively unknown to many medical doctors that could benefit from them.The doctoral work presented in this thesis joins a collective effort from the imaging community to demonstrate potential applications of advanced x-ray and neutron imaging methods to preclinical medical research, with the hope of contributing to reach a “critical mass” in the medical community and in the public opinion as well. 5. 5. Passivity & Breakdown of Super Duplex Stainless Steel : Studied with Electrochemical & Synchrotron Techniques

    Author : Marie Långberg; Jinshan Pan; David Lindell; Ulf Kivisäkk; Edvin Lundgren; Sannakaisa Virtanen; KTH; []
    Keywords : Passive film; duplex stainless steel; synchrotron X-ray reflectivity; X-ray diffraction; X-ray fluorescence; hard X-ray Photoelectron emission microscopy; X-ray Photoelectron spectroscopy; Electrochemical impedance; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Super duplex stainless steel consists of two phases: austenite and ferrite, and is a highly corrosion resistant material, with a wide range of applications. The corrosion resistance of stainless steels is determined by the performance of a spontaneously formed thin Cr oxide rich film with a thickness of 1-3 nm. READ MORE
