  1. 21. 3D Electron crystallography : Real space reconstruction and reciprocal space tomography

    Author : Daliang Zhang; Xiaodong Zou; Douglas L. Dorset; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electron crystallography; Electron microscopy; Porous materials; Chemistry; Kemi; Structural Chemistry; strukturkemi;

    Abstract : Electron crystallography is an important technique for studying micro- and nano-sized materials. It has two important advantages over X-ray crystallography for structural studies: 1) crystals millions of times smaller than those needed for X-ray diffraction can be studied; 2) it is possible to; focus the electrons to form an image. 2. 22. X-ray structure analysis of short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases

    Author : Jordi Benach-Andreu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : crystal structure; short-chain dehydrogenases reductases; Drosophila alcohol dehydrogenase; catalytic reaction mechanism; Comamonas testosteroni 3[beta] 17[beta]hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase;

    Abstract : X-ray crystallography and site-directed mutagenesis were used to better understand the structure/function relationships in the family of short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases (SDR). This group of enzymes constitutes a protein family with at least 60 members with highly diverse functions in pro- and eukaryotes. READ MORE

  3. 23. Oxidation of some Late Transition Metal Surfaces: Structural Studies from UHV to Atmospheric Pressure

    Author : Johan Gustafson; Synkrotronljusfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Kondenserade materiens egenskaper:struktur; phase equilibria; crystallography; thermal and mechanical properties; Condensed matter:stucture; density functional theory; scanning tunneling microscopy; surface x-ray diffraction; high resolution core level spectroscopy; low energy electron diffraction; metal surfaces; oxidation; catalysis; egenskaper termiska och mekaniska ; kristallografi; fasjämvikt;

    Abstract : The oxidation of Rh, Pd and Pt is studied under conditions ranging from ultra high vacuum to ambient pressures, with emphasis on a complete understanding of the geometry of the various oxide structures found. The investigations use a combination of various experimental methods, including high resolution core level spectroscopy, low energy electron diffraction, surface x-ray diffraction and scanning tunneling microscopy, as well as density functional theory calculations. 4. 24. Molecular Structure and Packing of Platinum(II) Complexes with S-donor Ligands in the Solid State An X-ray Crystallographic Study

    Author : Christian Hansson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; low temperature; high-pressure; structural class concept; hydrogen bonding; intermolecular interactions; crystallography; platinum coordination compounds; packing; phase transitions; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : How do molecules arrange themselves in a crystal? It is today not possible to definite predict the three-dimensional packing arrangement of molecules in the crystalline solid state. The aim of the work presented in this thesis has been to gain more knowledge of what principles that govern molecular packing. READ MORE

  5. 25. Microcrystallization and structural studies of proteins by serial crystallography and x-ray scattering

    Author : Owens Uwangue; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Proteins are the most complex and versatile biomolecules known, with essential roles in all cellular and physiological processes. They constitute the main structural components of cells, catalyze most biochemical reactions, regulate gene expression, modulate immune responses, and form tissues. READ MORE
