  1. 1. A Structural Viewpoint of Magnetism in Fe and Co Based Superlattices

    Author : Matts Björck; Gabriella Andersson; Adrian Rennie; Thomas Hase; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physics; Magnetism; Multilayer; Superlattice; X-ray magnetic circular dichroism; X-ray diffraction; X-ray reflectivity; Neutron diffraction; Structural refinement; Interfaces; Fysik;

    Abstract : In order to understand the properties of thin film devices, knowledge of the material's structure is essential. The work presented here combines magnetic and structural characterization of the systems studied to gain a deeper physical understanding. READ MORE

  2. 2. Characterization of Magnetic Nanoscale Systems: From Molecules to Particles and Self-Assembled Chains

    Author : Claudiu Bulbucan; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Magnetism; Magnetic nanoparticles; Exchange bias; Single molecule magnets; Magnetic nanochains; X-ray magnetic circular dichroism;

    Abstract : This thesis characterizes magnetic nanoscale systems with increasing size and aspect ratio using synchrotron radiation-based spectroscopy and microscopy techniques, combined with conventional magnetometry. The systems studied are molecular magnets, bimagnetic nanoparticles and self-assembled magnetic nanochains. READ MORE

  3. 3. X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy on Nano-Magnet Arrays and Thin Films : Magnetism and Structure

    Author : Andreas Persson; Dimitri Arvanitis; Cormac McGuinness; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self organization; nano-magnet; xmcd; exafs; peem; magnetism; Surfaces and interfaces; Ytor och mellanytor; Magnetism; Magnetism; Materiefysik; Physics of Matter;

    Abstract : The magnetic and structural properties of nano magnet arrays and ferromagnetic thin films are investigated. Circular x-rays are used and extensive use is made in this Thesis of the X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism (XMCD) technique. By means of the XMCD magneto-optic sum rules the values of the orbital and spin moments are determined. READ MORE

  4. 4. Derivation and application of response functions for nonlinear absorption and dichroisms

    Author : Tobias Fahleson; Patrick Norman; Daniel Crawford; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical spectroscopy; cubic response theory; damped response theory; magnetic circular dichroism; linear birefringence; two-photon absorption; TPA; resonant-inelastic x-ray scattering; RIXS; DALTON program; Teoretisk kemi och biologi; Theoretical Chemistry and Biology;

    Abstract : This thesis is titled ’Derivation and application of response functions for nonlinear absorption and dichroisms’ and was written by Tobias Fahleson at the Division of Theoretical Chemistry & Biology at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. It explores and expands upon theoretical means of quantifying a number of nonlinear spectroscopies, including two-photon absorption, resonant inelastic x-ray scattering, Jones birefringence, and magnetic circular dichroism. 5. 5. Amorphous Magnetic Materials : A Versatile Foundation for Tomorrow’s Applications

    Author : Sebastian George; Gabriella Andersson; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Fridrik Magnus; Elizabeth Blackburn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Amorphous; Magnetism; Rare Earth; Transition Metal; RE-TM; Thin Film; TbCo; SmCo; FeZr; CoFeZr;

    Abstract : Amorphous magnetic materials exhibit a number of key differentiating properties with respect to crystalline magnets. In some cases, the differences may simply be in the values of macroscopic properties such as saturation magnetization, coercivity, Curie temperature, and electrical conductivity. READ MORE
