1. Compact Soft X-Ray Microscopy : Sources, Optics and Instrumentation
Abstract : This thesis describes the development of a sub-60-nm full-period resolution compact soft x-ray microscope operating in the water-window region (2.3-4.4 nm). Soft x-ray water-window microscopy is a powerful technique for high-resolution imaging of organic materials exploiting the natural contrast mechanism between carbon and oxygen, cf. READ MORE

2. Passivity & Breakdown of Super Duplex Stainless Steel : Studied with Electrochemical & Synchrotron Techniques
Abstract : Super duplex stainless steel consists of two phases: austenite and ferrite, and is a highly corrosion resistant material, with a wide range of applications. The corrosion resistance of stainless steels is determined by the performance of a spontaneously formed thin Cr oxide rich film with a thickness of 1-3 nm. READ MORE

3. Soft X-ray Multilayer Mirrors
Abstract : This thesis is focused on the design, growth and characterization of soft x-ray multilayer mirrors with the emphasis on the wavelength region called the water window (λ=2.4-4.4 nm). READ MORE

4. Time-resolved x-ray diffraction of nanostructured samples
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis is based on time-resolved x-ray diffraction studies of InSb (111) samples. The experiments were carried out using a pump-probe configuration using short laser pulses as the pump and x-rays as the probe. Laser excitation leads to the formation of a strain pulse that propagates through the sample. READ MORE

5. A Structural Viewpoint of Magnetism in Fe and Co Based Superlattices
Abstract : In order to understand the properties of thin film devices, knowledge of the material's structure is essential. The work presented here combines magnetic and structural characterization of the systems studied to gain a deeper physical understanding. READ MORE
