  1. 11. Tailoring Properties of Materials at the Nanoscale

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Uppsala University

    Author : Hossein Raanaei; Uppsala universitet.; [2009]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Multilayers; magnetic anysotropy; amorphous materials; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics Condensed matter physics Magnetism; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik Kondenserade materiens fysik Magnetism; Materiefysik; Physics of Matter;

    Abstract : The knowledge of growth and characterizing techniques is essential for the preparation of high quality thin films and multilayers. Here, structural properties have been investigated by X-ray reflectivity, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy while the composition was determined by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry. Abstract : This thesis reports on surface studies of industrial materials whose importance for society manifests in the vast range of applications. In industrial materials alloying is performed in order to improve the parent material's physical and mechanical properties such as strength, corrosion and wear resistance, as well as high temperature performance in comparison to the pure metal. 3. 13. Interaction of C60 with transition metals for thin film applications

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Lars Norin; Uppsala universitet.; [1998]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; C60; transition metals; fulleride; carbide; epitaxy; Kemi; NATURAL SCIENCES Chemistry; NATURVETENSKAP Kemi; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : The fullerene molecule C60 is known to undergo many different chemical reactions, including intercalation of alkali- and alkaline earth metals. Relatively little is still known about the reaction between transition metals and C60, and the objective of this thesis was therefore-to investigate the chemical interaction between C60 and some group IV-VI transition metals. 4. 14. Single-crystal Mo/V superlattices : growth, structure, and hydrogen uptake

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Jens Birch; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [1994]

    Abstract : Fundamental studies concerning the growth, structural characterization and hydrogen uptake of single-crystal (00 l )-oriented Mo/V superlattices have been performed. The superlattices were grown by dual-target magnetron sputtering in pure Ar-atmosphere < 6·10-3 Torr on (001)-oriented MgO substrates. READ MORE

  5. 15. The effect of nano-confinement on hydrogen uptake in metallic superlattices

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Uppsala University

    Author : Sotirios A. Droulias; Uppsala universitet.; [2018]

    Abstract : The absorption of hydrogen is exothermic in vanadium whereas it is endothermic in iron and chromium. Investigations of the hydrogen uptake within Fe/V(001) and Cr/V(001) superlattices allow therefore a detailed exploration of finite size effects and the influence of boundaries on hydrogen absorption.
