21. The effect of nano-confinement on hydrogen uptake in metallic superlattices
Abstract : The absorption of hydrogen is exothermic in vanadium whereas it is endothermic in iron and chromium. Investigations of the hydrogen uptake within Fe/V(001) and Cr/V(001) superlattices allow therefore a detailed exploration of finite size effects and the influence of boundaries on hydrogen absorption. 22. Influence of Self-trapping, Clamping and Confinement on Hydrogen Absorption
Abstract : The dissociation of hydrogen molecules at surfaces is the first step in the absorption process. If the absorbing material is covered by an oxide, this layer will determine the effective uptake rate of an underlying absorbing material. READ MORE

23. Protons in In-doped BaZrO3: incorporation, distribution and local environments
Abstract : Acceptor doped proton conducting oxides are currently of large interest for their potential application as electrolyte materials in the future generation of solid oxide fuel cells. However, their proton conductivities are still lower than the target conductivity required for practical applications. READ MORE

24. Designing order with long-range interactions in mesoscopic magnetic chains
Abstract : This thesis investigates how the low-energy magnetic configuration of a mesoscopic chain can be tuned by geometrical modifications. The magnetic arrays made by single-domain stadium shaped elements positioned side-by-side were fabricated by patterning into a sputtered ferromagnetic thin film. READ MORE

25. Synergies in Biolubrication
Abstract : The objective of this thesis was to advance understanding in the field of biolubrication, finding inspiration from the human synovial joints. This was addressed by investigating the association of key biolubricants and the resulting lubrication performance. READ MORE
