  1. 6. Regulation of NMDA receptor properties by amino acids and cations : a biochemical and electrophysiological study

    Author : Yun Liu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : NMDA receptor; Glutamate; Glycine; [3H]MK-801 binding; Magnesium; Calcium; Tris; Potassium; Sodium; Proton; Xenopus oocytes; Spinal cord; Cerebral cortex; Receptor binding; Electrophysiology;

    Abstract : NMDA receptors are glutamate-regulated ion channels that are permeable to Ca2+, Na+ and K+ and are sensitive to voltage-dependent Mg2+-block. To investigate the modulatory effects of amino acids and cations on NMDA receptors and the possible regional differences in the pharmacology of NMDA receptors, I used mainly two techniques in this thesis: electrophysiological analysis of expressed NMDA receptors in Xenopusoocytes and biochemical receptor binding using [3H]MK-801 in membrane preparations from the rat cerebral cortex and spinal cord. 2. 7. Chromatin remodelling and gene regulation

    Author : Birgitta Gelius; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Chromatin plays an important role in gene regulation, as it forms an obstacle for a number of proteins that need access to the DNA. Several protein complexes that open up the chromatin structure have been identified and some of these are important for gene regulation. READ MORE

  3. 8. Signaling pathways in the development of female germ cells

    Author : Deepak Adhikari; Kui Liu; Elisabet Stener-Victorin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ovary; primordial follicle; activation; mTORC₁; PI₃K; oocyte maturation; MPF; Cdk₁; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Primordial follicles are the first small follicles to appear in the mammalian ovary. Women are born with a fixed number of primordial follicles in the ovaries. Once formed, the pool of primordial follicles serves as a source of developing follicles and oocytes. READ MORE

  4. 9. Plant aquaporins

    Author : Ingela Johansson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; water deficit; calcium; plasma membrane; Plant biochemistry; channel; phosphorylation; Växtbiokemi;

    Abstract : Aquaporins are integral membrane proteins that specifically transports water. In plants, aquaporins have been identified in the plasma membrane and in the vacuolar membrane. READ MORE

  5. 10. Plant major intrinsic proteins. Identification and characterization of novel water channel-like protiens

    Author : Sofia Gustavsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Växtbiokemi; Plant biochemistry; GIP; SIP; GUS; immunolabelling; aquaporin; aquaglyceroporin;

    Abstract : The Major Intrinsic Proteins, MIPs, constitute a large, ancient superfamily of membrane proteins that are found in all kingdoms of life. Most MIPs facilitate passive diffusion of water across biological membranes (aquaporins), although many channels are also permeable for glycerol and other small uncharged solutes, (aquaglyceroporins).
