  1. 11. Metabolic engineering and random mutagenesis for improved xylose utilisation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Fredrik Wahlbom; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk teknik; Biochemical technology; mykologi; virologi; bacteriology; Microbiology; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Chemical technology and engineering; ethanol; Saccharomyces; xylose; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis I have summarised my work on the analysis and improvement of xylose utilisation by recombinant S. cerevisiae. A metabolic flux model was developed and used to analyse the intracellular fluxes in the recombinant xylose utilising S. cerevisiae TMB 3001 cultivated in chemostat at various dilution rates and xylose/glucose concentrations. Abstract : The aim of the work presented in this thesis is the improvement of xylose fermentation performance of recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains expressing XYL1 and XYL2 from Pichia stipitis, encoding xylose reductase (XR) and xylitol dehydrogenase (XDH). A recombinant strain of S. READ MORE

  3. 13. Biokinetics and radiation dosimetry of 14C-labelled triolein, urea, glycocholic acid and xylose in man. Studies related to nuclear medicine “breath tests” using accelerator mass spectrometry

    Author : Mikael Gunnarsson; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []

    Abstract : 14C-labelled substances have been used in biomedical research and clinical medicine for over 50 years. Physicians and scientists however, often hesitate to use these substances in patients and volunteers because the radiation dosimetry is unclear. READ MORE

  4. 14. Engineering Saccharomyces cerevisiae for mixed-sugar fermentation

    Author : Rosa Garcia Sanchez; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; metabolic engineering; evolutionary engineering; promoter; mixed-sugar utilization; galactose; arabinose; xylose; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; fermentation; ethanol; phosphoglucomutase;

    Abstract : Efficient fermentation of all the monomeric sugars derived from lignocellulose is crucial to increase the economy of bioethanol production, since they can account for a considerable fraction of the fermentable sugars in the raw material. This thesis describes the engineering of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains for improved xylose, galactose and/or arabinose utilization. READ MORE

  5. 15. Application of Synthetic Biology for Biopolymer Production using Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Alejandro Muñoz De Las Heras; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : Saccharomyce cerevisiae; Xylose; Poly-3-d-hydroxybutyrate PHB ; NADH; NADPH; Acetyl-CoA; Metabolic engineering;

    Abstract : Plastics are versatile, cheap and durable materials that are omnipresent in modern society. Since most of them are derived from crude oil and are not biodegradable, their production leads to the depletion of fossil fuels and the accumulation of enormous amounts of plastic waste that pollutes ecosystems worldwide.
