41. Wild rodents as carriers of potential pathogens to pigs, chickens and humans : with special emphasis on Brachyspira spp. and Yersinia enterocolitica
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the specific risks that rodents constitute for proliferation of pathogens and transmission of those to farm animals, and indirectly to humans. Rodents were captured in pig and chicken flocks, in wastewater treatment plants and other urban environments. READ MORE

42. Perturbation of the epithelial barrier by enteric pathogens
Abstract : Gastrointestinal infections in humans have been associated with a number of diseased condition, including stomach ulcers, gastroenteritis, Crohn's disease, and rheumatic arthritis. Such infections often cause altered intestinal permeability through perturbation of the tight junctions that hold epithelial cells together. READ MORE

43. Structure and host-receptor recognition studies of Gram-negative bacterial fimbriae assembled via the chaperone/Usher Pathway
Abstract : Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC), enteroaggregative E. coli (EAEC), and Yersinia enterocolitica (YE) are the principle etiological agents of acute and persistent diarrhea worldwide including resource-poor and industrialized regions. READ MORE

44. Studies on Polysaccharides from some Gram-Negative Bacteria
Abstract : In this survey structural studies on some polysaccharides isolated from the families of Enterobachteriaceae (Klebsiella and Salmonella) and Parvobacteriaceae (Yersinia) will be discussed. The occurence of some rare or not earlier reported deoxysugars is demonstrated, namely, 6-deoxy-D-manno-heptose, 3-deoxy-L-glycero-pentulosonic acid and five of the isomers of 3,6-dideoxy-hexoses. 45. Statistical modelling in chemistry - applications to nuclear magnetic resonance and polymerase chain reaction
Abstract : This thesis consists of two parts with the common theme of statistical modelling in chemistry. The first part is concerned with applications in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, while the second part deals with applications in polymerase chain reaction (PCR). READ MORE
