  1. 11. Mesostructured particulate silica materials with tunable pore size : Synthesis, characterization and applications

    Author : Malin Helena Sörensen; Per Claesson; Viveka Alfredsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mesoporous materials; aersol-based process; emulsion-based process; biocatalysis; sustained release; 3D hexagonal; 2D hexagonal; powder; spherical particles; liquid crystalline phases; AFM-porosimetry; Pluronic; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Colloidal assemblies of surfactants and polymers in aqueous solutions have been used by human mankind for hundreds of years and they are of great importance in many of our technological processes, such as fabrication of soap and papermaking. Less than two decades ago the idea of using colloidal assemblies as templates of inorganic materials was borne. READ MORE

  2. 12. Studies of surfactant behaviour and model surfaces relevant to flotation deinking

    Author : Katarina Theander; Mark Rutland; Krister Holmberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : The objective of this work was to investigate the behaviour of some model surfactants used in the deinking process, namely, sodium oleate and two ethoxylated nonionic surfactants (C12E6 and C14E6) as well as to investigate the suitability of various model substrates for mimicking interactions in technical systems. The influence of the adsorption to the air water interface has been measured by means of equilibrium and dynamic surface tension measurements, as well as foaming experiments. READ MORE

  3. 13. Ink Film Splitting Acoustics in Offset Printing

    Author : Joakim Voltaire; Per Claesson; Douglas Bousfield; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : This thesis claims a relationship between the film splitting sound emission from the printing press nip and the dynamic interaction occurring there between ink, fountain solution and substrate in offset lithography. The film splitting sound derives from the cavitation formed by the pressure drop in the second half of the print nip flow passage. READ MORE

  4. 14. Interactions between non-polar surfaces in water: Fokus on talc, pitch and surface roughness effects

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis work was to gain understanding of the interactions between talc mineral and surfaces, liquids and chemicals relevant for industrial applications, such as pulp and paper. Talc is used in the pulp and paper industry as a filler pigment, in control of pitch (lipophilic extractives) deposits and as a coating pigment. READ MORE

  5. 15. Surface Vibrational and Electron Spectroscopy - Experiments and first-principle calculations

    Author : Martin Andersson; Kemisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gränsskikt; anharmonicity; Ytkemi; Surface and boundary layery chemistry; adsorbates; metal surface; density functional theory; first-principle calculations; electron spectroscopy; reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy; vibrational spectroscpy;

    Abstract : This work deals with interpretation of experimental surface spectroscopic data with the aid of first-principle calculations. Surface infrared reflection-absorption spectra as well as spectra from the electron spectroscopic methods photoemission and X-ray absorption are considered. READ MORE
