  1. 6. Interactions Between Biopolymers and Surfactants with Focus on Fluorosurfactants and Proteins

    Author : Lubica Macáková; Per Claesson; Fredrik Höök; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to obtain a better understanding of the association between surfactants and biopolymers in bulk solutions and at solid/aqueous liquid interface. In order to do this, the interactions between surfactants and biopolymers were investigated with a variety of experimental techniques. READ MORE

  2. 7. Adsorption of polyhydroxyl based surfactants

    Author : Maria Matsson; Per Claesson; Robert Meszaros; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; surface chemistry; adsorption; surfactant; nonionic; alkyl glucoside APG ; ellipsometry; kinetics; alkyl amine oxide DDAO ; alkyl ammonium bromide DTAB ; solid liquid interface; synergism; coadsorption.;

    Abstract : Adsorption on solid surfaces from solution is a fundamental property of a surfactant. It might even be the most important aspect of surfactant behavior, since it influences many applications, such as cleaning, detergency, dispersion, separation, flotation, and lubrication. READ MORE

  3. 8. Polyelectrolytes : Bottle-Brush Architectures and Association with Surfactants

    Author : Ali Naderi; Per M. Claesson; Orlando Rojas; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polyelectrolyte; Surfactant; Bottle-Brush Polyelectrolyte; Comb Polyelectrolyte; Non-Equilibrium State; Polymer Architecture; Adsorption; Desorption; Association; Excluded Volume; Light Scattering; SFA; AFM; QCM-D; Turbidimeter; Mica; Silica; Surface Forces; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : This thesis has the dual purpose of raising awareness of the importance of the mixing protocol on the end products of polyelectrolyte-oppositely charged surfactant systems, and to contribute to a better understanding of the properties of bottle-brush polyelectrolytes when adsorbed onto interfaces. In the first part of this thesis work, the effects of the mixing protocol and the mixing procedure on formed polyelectrolyte-oppositely charged surfactant aggregates were investigated. READ MORE

  4. 9. Lubrication and Surface Properties of Adsorbed Layers of Polyelectrolytes and Proteins

    Author : Torbjörn Pettersson; Per M. Claesson; Hans-Jürgen Butt; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biochemistry; biomedical engineering; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : Friction forces between protein / polyelectrolyte layers, adsorption properties of proteins, and conformational changes due to variation in electrolyte concentration have been investigated. The aim was to obtain better understanding of adsorbed layer properties, with focus on the relation between layer structure and lubrication capabilities. READ MORE

  5. 10. Interactions of cellulose and model surfaces

    Author : Johanna Stiernstedt; Mark Rutland; William Ducker; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis is fundamental surface force and friction studies of silica and cellulose surfaces, performed mainly with the atomic force microscope (AFM). The normal interactions between model cellulose surfaces have been found to consist of a longer range double layer force with a short range steric interaction, the nature of which is extensively discussed.
