  1. 1. The initial atmospheric corrosion of copper and zinc induced by carboxylic acids : Quantitative in situ analysis and computer simulations

    Author : Harveth Gil; Christofer Leygraf; Johan Tidblad; Stuart Lyon; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Atmospheric corrosion; copper; zinc; carboxylic acids; modeling; GILDES; in situ; quantification;

    Abstract : Degradation of metals through atmospheric corrosion is a most important and costly phenomenon with significant effects on, e.g., the lifespan of industrial materials, the reliability of electronic components and military equipment, and the aesthetic appearance of our cultural heritage. 2. 2. Three Subfamilies of KRAB Zinc Finger Proteins : A Structural, Functional and Evolutionary Analysis

    Author : Charlotta Mark; Lars Hellman; Fredrik Öberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Krüppel zinc finger; KRAB; TIF1β; transcriptional repression; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; Molecular Immunology; molekylär immunologi;

    Abstract : Krüppel-related zinc finger proteins constitute the largest single class of transcription factors within the human genome. Members of this protein family have the ability to either activate or repress transcription depending on the presence of specific activator or repressor domains within the protein. READ MORE

  3. 3. Biochemical Studies of Semenogelins with Emphasis on Zinc-Binding Properties

    Author : Magnus Jonsson; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sexualitet; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduction; andrology; gynaecology; Obstetrics; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; gel-forming proteins; surface plasmon resonance; prostate-specific antigen; protein C inhibitor; seminal plasma; zinc; semen; semenogelin; reproduktion;

    Abstract : Semenogelins I and II (SgI and SgII) are homologous and rapidly evolving proteins that have a repetitive primary structure and are synthesized mainly in the seminal vesicles. Upon ejaculation, a gelatinous coagulum is formed when the semenogelin-rich secretion from the seminal vesicles is mixed with the prostate secretion, which contains high concentrations of zinc(II) and proteases. 4. 4. Probabilistic Reconciliation Analysis for Genes and Pseudogenes

    Author : Owais Mahmudi; Jens Lagergren; Cedric Chauve; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phylogenetics; Evolution; Reconciliation Analysis; Bayesian Inference; Datalogi; Computer Science;

    Abstract : Phylogeneticists have studied the evolution of life from single celled organisms to the astonishing biodiversity around us for a long time now. The relationship between species is often expressed as a binary tree - the tree of life. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quantified In Situ Analysis of Initial Atmospheric Corrosion : Surface heterogeneity, galvanic effects and corrosion product distribution on zinc, brass and Galvalume

    Author : Ping Qiu; Christofer Leygraf; Béatrice Hannoyer; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Atmospheric corrosion; Zinc; Brass; Galvalume; In Situ; Quantification.; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : The interaction of the surface of a pure metal or an alloy with the surrounding atmosphere occurs in a highly complex interfacial regime. During atmospheric corrosion this interfacial regime involves the metal surface, often covered by a naturally formed oxide layer of a few nanometers thickness; an aqueous adlayer, typically with a thickness of a few to a few tens of nanometers, and the atmosphere from which airborne particles, oxygen, and gaseous pollutants dissolve into the adlayer and influence the atmospheric corrosion process.
