  1. 11. Microstructure and Gelation Behaviour of High Methoxyl and Low Methoxyl Pectin Gels and their Mixtures

    Author : Caroline E E Löfgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; rheology; kinetic behaviour; LM pectin; transmission electron microscopy; calcium; microstructure; gel formation; sucrose; HM pectin; pectin mixtures;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis was to explore the functional behaviour of high methoxyl (HM), low methoxyl (LM) and mixed HM/LM pectin gels of different chemical characteristics with emphasis on microstructure and kinetic rheological behaviour. The rheological properties and the structure of pectin gel networks were investigated for pectins under different sucrose, calcium and pH conditions by the means of oscillatory measurements and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). 4. 14. From the sea to the land beyond : exploring plural perspectives on whaling

    Author : Benedict E. Singleton; Rolf Lidskog; Michael Thompson; C.S.A. Kris van Koppen; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; whaling; Faroe Islands; ontological turn; cultural theory; the commons; political ecology; environmental conflict; environmental policy; conservation; Sociologi; Sociology;

    Abstract : A perennial challenge in efforts to deal with environmental issues is the question of how to simplify. As such, where and when one simplifies is often a source of conflict, but perversely also paramount to finding a solution. This thesis focuses on one long-standing environmental issue, the whaling debate. READ MORE

  5. 15. Specific surface area of some minerals commonly found in granite

    Author : Isabelle E. Dubois; Maria E. Malmström; Bo Strömberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Granite; Mineral; Surface area; BET; Sorption; Particle size;

    Abstract : The specific surface area, determined by the BET method, is a parameter often used to scale results of mineral studies of surface reactions in terms of rate and capacity to the field scale. Such extrapolations of results from small-scale laboratory experiments to the field-scale are important within many environmental applications. READ MORE
