16. Transition Metal-Free O-, N- and S-Arylations with Diaryliodonium Salts
Abstract : This thesis concerns the development of metal-free arylation procedures using diaryliodonium salts, a non-toxic and versatile electrophilic arylating reagent, with applications to synthesize biologically relevant targets. The first part describes a transition metal-free formal synthesis of phenoxazine with an O-functionalization of a certain phenol as a key step. 17. Ionization of large molecules with short laser pulses
Abstract : The decay dynamics of fullerenes and polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) after femtosecond-laser excitation have been studied experimentally by electron momentum mapping and mass spectrometry. The electron spectra of fullerenes and large PAH-molecules were found to be exponentially decreasing with energy without any distinct peaks outside the photon energy. READ MORE

18. Functional product development : an explorative view
Abstract : Embodied in the concept of functional products is a shift in view for manufacturing companies as providers of physical artefacts to service providers. Furthermore, differentiation by offering added value, increased commitment towards customers, life-cycle commitment for the physical artefact and close collaboration between manufacturing companies are characteristics of the concept of functional products. 19. Mechanical Properties and Deformation Behaviour of Polymer Materials during Nanosectioning : Characterisation and Modelling
Abstract : Research in local fracture processes and micro-machining of polymers and polymer-based composites has attracted increasing attention, in development of composite materials and miniaturisation of polymer components. In this thesis, sectioning (machining) of a glassy polymer and a carbon nanotube based composite at the nanoscale was performed by an instrumented ultramicrotome. READ MORE

20. New Directions in Symbolic Model Checking
Abstract : In today's computer engineering, requirements for generally high reliability have pushed the notion of testing to its limits. Many disciplines are moving, or have already moved, to more formal methods to ensure correctness. This is done by comparing the behavior of the system as it is implemented against a set of requirements. READ MORE
