16. On the Residual Stresses and Microstructure Formation of Aluminum-Silicon Cast Alloys
Abstract : Cast aluminum-silicon alloys are being increasingly used in automotive and aerospace industries for critical structure applications because of their excellent castability, low density, acceptable mechanical properties and low cost. Different casting and heat treatment parameters largely affect the microstructure and residual stress of the components, which in turn, has a great impact on their mechanical properties. READ MORE

17. Shear walls with double plasterboards : evalutation of design models
Abstract : This thesis presents a part of the ECSC-project Development of dry composite construction systems based on steel in residential application that focus on design recommendations for stabilizing buildings by using shear resistance in the walls. The existing design method suggested and used by the Swedish plasterboard manufacturer Gyproc AB is considered as a bit conservative and it does not consider double plasterboards properly. READ MORE

18. Elastoplasticity of Grey Cast Iron FE-Algorithms and Biaxial Experiments
Abstract : This thesis focuses on multiaxial elastoplastic behaviour of graphitic grey cast iron with the aim to provide physically appropriate and numerically reliable constitutive relations for use in FE-codes. To achieve this goal, this work is divided into three parts: Biaxial experiments are performed on thin cruciform specimens. READ MORE

19. Nonlinear Creep Model of Paper and Corrugated Board Materials
Abstract : Models of the nonlinear creep behavior of paper, and of the global buckling , local buckling and creep buckling of corrugated board have been developed. The studies of creep and buckling were limited to climate conditions with constant relative humidity. First the short-term elastic buckling of corrugated board panels was studied. READ MORE

20. Moisture-induced stress and distortion of wood : A numerical and experimental study of wood's drying and long-term behaviour
Abstract : With the current advances made in three-dimensional modelling of wood, it is possible to provide an overall picture of moisture flow, and moisture-induced stress and deformations, whereas previously, experiments only provided local measurements. The main aim of the doctoral thesis is to investigate the possibilities of the developed three-dimensional numerical model to predict the behaviour of wood when simultaneously exposed to a mechanical load and a particular climate.
