  1. 1. Trace analysis of dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs using comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography with electron capture detection

    Author : Conny Danielsson; Peter Haglund; Karin Wiberg; Jean-Marie Dimandja; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography; GC × GC; µECD; PCDDs; PCDFs; dioxins; dioxin-like PCBs; Pressurized liquid extraction; PLE; PLE-C; food; feed; fly ash; soil; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs), two groups of struc-turally related chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons, generally referred to as “dioxins” are of great concern due to their extreme toxicity and presence in all compartments of the environment. Since they occur at very low levels, their analysis is complex and challenging, and there is a need for cost-efficient, reliable and rapid analytical alternatives to the expensive methods in-volving use of gas chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry (GC-HRMS). 2. 2. Rectal cancer : staging, radiotherapy and surgery

    Author : Anna Martling; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Rectal cancer; surgery; radiotherapy; staging; prognosis;

    Abstract : In Sweden, about 1800 patients are annually diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the rectum. Surgery remains the major primary treatment. Adjuvant radiotherapy and total mesorectal excision (TME) are two major achievements in rectal cancer treatment during the last two decades. READ MORE

  3. 3. Quantified In Situ Analysis of Initial Atmospheric Corrosion : Surface heterogeneity, galvanic effects and corrosion product distribution on zinc, brass and Galvalume

    Author : Ping Qiu; Christofer Leygraf; Béatrice Hannoyer; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Atmospheric corrosion; Zinc; Brass; Galvalume; In Situ; Quantification.; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : The interaction of the surface of a pure metal or an alloy with the surrounding atmosphere occurs in a highly complex interfacial regime. During atmospheric corrosion this interfacial regime involves the metal surface, often covered by a naturally formed oxide layer of a few nanometers thickness; an aqueous adlayer, typically with a thickness of a few to a few tens of nanometers, and the atmosphere from which airborne particles, oxygen, and gaseous pollutants dissolve into the adlayer and influence the atmospheric corrosion process. 4. 4. Low rectal cancer : aspects of surgical techniques and treatment results

    Author : Claes Anderin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Rectal cancer is the 7th most common form of cancer in Sweden, both for men and women. About one third of all patients diagnosed with rectal cancer have a low tumour (i.e. 0-5 cm from the anal verge). READ MORE
