  1. 1. Radiation Oncology Data and Modelling Side Effects after Radiation Therapy

    Author : Caroline Olsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dose and side effect data; dose-volume response; fractionation effect; LQ model; sequential two-phase radiotherapy; head and neck cancer; parotid gland; xerostomia; pelvic radiotherapy; gynecological cancer; pubic bone; pain; data integration; xerostomia;

    Abstract : Although modern radiation therapy techniques have the ability to conform the dose distribution of ionizing radiation tightly around the volume to be treated, unwanted irradiation to surrounding organs remains a problem. The probability of a side effect arising in the normal tissue of a patient after radiation therapy can be modelled by sigmoid mathematical functions known as normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) models. 2. 2. Reactive Concurrent Data Structures and Algorithms for Synchronization

    Author : Phuong Ha; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; non-blocking; reactive; multi-word atomic primitives; online algorithms; shared memory; concurrent data structures; distributed data structures; randomization; online financial problems; synchronization; spin-locks;

    Abstract : Parallelism plays a significant role in high-performance computing systems, from large clusters of computers to chip-multithreading (CMT) processors. Performance of the parallel systems comes not only from concurrently runningmore processing hardware but also from utilizing the hardware efficiently. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sickness Absence in Sweden : Its relation to Work, Health and Social Insurance Factors

    Author : Lars-Gunnar Engström; Staffan Janson; Tor Eriksen; Gunnel Hensing; Karlstads universitet; []

    Abstract : Background: The high levels of sickness absence and disability pensioning experienced during the 1990's and 2000's have become both socially as well as financially burdensome for society. Sickness absence implies a costly loss of production for society and large groups of individuals are risking to become marginalised on the labour market. READ MORE

  4. 4. Boreal vegetation responses to forestry as reflected in field trial and survey data and the quality of cover estimates and presence/absence in vegetation inventory

    Abstract : Den här avhandlingen belyser hur avverkning och markberedning påverkar markfloran i den svenska barrskogen. Dessutom utvärderas två inventeringsmetoder som används inom växtekologin. READ MORE

  5. 5. Perceptually-seductive technology : designing computer support for everyday creativity

    Author : Eva Lindh Waterworth; Mark Chignell; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; creativity everyday- ; emotion; learning; memory; perceptually-seductive technology; presence;

    Abstract : Perceptually-seductive technology (PST) is introduced as a way of designing IT environments that can help support everyday creativity. This is done in part by using sensory stimulation, seclusion and other perceptual components to seduce an individual towards creative insights that would not occur on the basis of conceptual thought alone.
