  1. 1. Lighting Control Systems to Save Energy in the non-Residential Sector : State-of-the-art, Field Studies, and Simulations

    Author : Niko Gentile; Institutionen för arkitektur och byggd miljö; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Indoor lighting; lighting control system; lighting control; energy sav; energy eff; user acceptan; degree of acceptance; human factor; occupancy strategy; presence strategy; absence strategy; daylight harvesting; daylight-linked; daylight; photoelectric dimming; photosensor; manual switch; functional illumination; standby;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the energy-saving potential for lighting when using traditional indoor LCSs in non-residential buildings. In the study, an overarching theoretical framework is used that distinguishes between energy efficiency and energy saving, as well as between energy use for lighting and functional illumination. 2. 2. Revealing Secrets of Synaptic Protein Interactions : A Biosensor based Strategy

    Author : Christian Seeger; U Helena Danielson; Sarah Lummis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surface plasmon resonance; biosensor; AMPA receptor; GABAA receptor; ligand-gated ion channel; A-kinase anchoring protein; caldendrin; calmodulin; HIV; fragment based drug discovery; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : Protein interactions are the basis of synaptic function, and studying these interactions on a molecular level is crucial for understanding basic brain function, as well as mechanisms underlying neurological disorders. In this thesis, kinetic and mechanistic characterization of synaptic protein interactions was performed by using surface plasmon resonance biosensor technology. READ MORE

  3. 3. Promoting return to work : lay experiences after sickness absence with musculoskeletal diagnoses

    Author : Gunnel Östlund; Gunnel Hensing; Elisabet Cedersund; Anne Hammarström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Musculoskeletal disorders; back pain; neck and shoulder pain; sickness absence; sick leave; qualitative interview; lay knowledge; patient satisfaction; rehabilitation; gender; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Introduction: Musculoskeletal disorders constitute the greatest cause of sickness absence from work. Despite research and efforts at rehabilitation, sickness absence due to these disorders has not decreased, but has instead increased, particularly in women. Clients’ perceptions of care and rehabilitation, i.e. READ MORE

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to gain new knowledge of factors and interventions that improve work ability and return to work (RTW) among women on long-term sick leave from human service organizations (HSOs). The specific aims of the studies were: to evaluate the associations between the self-rated Work Ability Index (WAI) and Work Ability Score (WAS), and the relationship with prospective sick leave, symptoms, and health (Paper I); to investigate whether intervention with myofeedback training or intensive muscular strength training could decrease pain and increase work ability among women with neck pain (Paper II); to examine the associations between workplace rehabilitation and the combination of supportive conditions at work with work ability and RTW over time (Paper III); and to explore experiences, views, and strategies in the rehabilitation process for RTW (Paper IV). Abstract : Abstract in UndeterminedThe dominant explanation for China's unprecendented rates of economic growth in the last three decades has regarded them as the consequence of the reform policies that, after Mao, the Chinese leaders embarked upon in 1978. The present study, in contrast, argues for continuity between the socialist period and the post-refrom era in China's economic course. READ MORE
