  1. 1. Organic Phosphorus Compounds in Aquatic Sediments : Analysis, Abundance and Effects

    Author : Joakim Ahlgren; Emil Rydin; Monica Waldebäck; Lars Tranvik; Karin Markides; Sven Blomqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; Organic phosphorus; aquatic sediment; eutrophication; NMR; internal loading; sample preparation; extraction; degradation; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Phosphorus (P) is often the limiting nutrient in lacustrine and brackish eco-systems, and enhanced input of P into an aquatic system might therefore negatively impact the environment. Because modern waste water manage-ment have reduced external P input to surface waters, internal P loading from the sediment has become one of the main P sources to aquatic ecosys-tems, in which relatively unknown organic P compounds seem to be more active in P recycling than previously thought. 2. 2. Benthic diatoms in the Gulf of Bothnia : Community analysis and diversity

    Author : Svenja Busse; Michael Sullivan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Baltic Sea; Biodiversity; Biomass; Community ecology; Diatoms; Multivariate analysis; Navicula; Phytobenthos; Salinity gradient; Scale; Size; Water movement; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; Ecological Botany; Ekologisk botanik;

    Abstract : Benthic diatoms are valuable tools for biological monitoring and paleo-ecological reconstruction of past environmental conditions. This thesis aims at describing size-related properties of benthic diatoms and suggests that data assessment for community analysis can be improved by considering the importance of scale. READ MORE

  3. 3. Community Robustness Analysis : Theoretical Approaches to Identifying Keystone Structures in Ecological Communities

    Author : Sofia Berg; Tomas Jonsson; Bo Ebenman; Daniel Stouffer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Most of the world’s ecosystems suffer from stress caused by human activities such as habitat destruction, fragmentation, overexploitation of species and climate change. These factors affect the reproduction and/or survival of individual species as well as interactions between species in ecological communities. READ MORE

  4. 4. Impaired reparative processes in particular related to hyaluronan in various cutaneous disorders : a structural analysis

    Author : Ulf Bertheim; Bengt Gerdin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : hyaluronan; scar tissue; diabetes mellitus; basal cell carcinoma; skin; wound healing; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Abstract : Cutaneous reparative processes, including wound healing, are highly developed procedures in which a chain of actions occurs to reconstitute the function of the wounded tissue. To prevent a delayed or excessive reparative process it is important to understand how this procedure develops and is maintained. READ MORE

  5. 5. Scarcity, Abundance and Sufficiency: Contributions to Social and Economic Theory

    Author : Adel Daoud; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; economics; sociology; scarcity; abundance; sufficiency;

    Abstract : Economic sociology has established itself as a strong and vibrant field in the social sciences. A number of significant studies have been conducted on the relation between the economy and society: on firms, markets, networks, money, and general action theory. But little has been done on the issues of scarcity, abundance, and sufficiency (SAS). READ MORE
