  1. 6. Target and Laser Pulse Optimization for Laser-Driven Ion Acceleration

    Author : Alexander Permogorov; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Terawatt laser; Target normal sheath acceleration; laser-driven ion acceleration; proton acceleration; double plasma mirror; Thomson parabola spectrometer; Fysicumarkivet A:2021:Permogorov;

    Abstract : The research presented in this thesis is primarily focused on experimental investigations of laser-driven ion acceleration from solid targets via the target normal sheath acceleration mechanism. In particular, ways of optimizing the absorption of the laser pulse energy by free plasma electrons in the target, or modifying the shape of the accelerating electron sheath were addressed. 2. 7. Detector Development, Source Characterization and Novel Applications of Laser Ion Acceleration

    Author : Lovisa Senje; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laser; Ion; Acceleration; Proton; Water; Sheath; Lifetime; Laser; Ion; Acceleration; Proton; Water; Radiolysis; Sheath; Detector; Fysicumarkivet A:2017:Senje;

    Abstract : The main focus of the work presented in this thesis is on experimental studies oflaser acceleration of protons and other positive ions from solid targets. The topic is explored from three different angles: firstly, the development of diagnostics adapted to the ion pulses, secondly, the characterization of the source of the energetic particles and, finally, the application of laser-accelerated protons for time-resolved radiolysis of glass and water. 3. 8. Experiments on Laser-Based Particle Acceleration : Beams of Energetic Electrons and Protons

    Author : Kristoffer Svensson; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; laser; plasma; acceleration; electrons; protons; Fysicumarkivet A:2016:Svensson;

    Abstract : This thesis describes experiments involving laser-plasma-based acceleration of electrons and protons, using the techniques of laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA) and target normal sheath acceleration (TNSA). By using extremely high accelerating field strengths, up to the order of TV m-1, it is possible to reach high kinetic particle energies over very short distances. READ MORE

  4. 9. Satellite observations of auroral acceleration processes

    Author : Lars Eliasson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aurora; particle acceleration; space plasma; magnetosphere; ionosphere; polar cap; satellite observations;

    Abstract : Measurements with satellite and sounding rocket borne instruments contain important information on remote and local processes in regions containing matter in the plasma state. The characteristic features of the particle distributions can be used to explain the morphology and dynamics of the different plasma populations. READ MORE

  5. 10. Turbulent burning, flame acceleration, explosion triggering

    Author : V'yacheslav Akkerman; Vitaly Bychkov; Geoffrey Searby; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Turbulent combustion; flame acceleration; detonation explosion triggering; direct numerical simulations; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The present thesis considers several important problems of combustion theory, which are closely related to each other: turbulent burning, flame interaction with walls in different geometries, flame acceleration and detonation triggering. The theory of turbulent burning is developed within the renormalization approach. READ MORE
