  1. 1. Climatology and firn processes in the lower accumulation area of the Greenland ice sheet

    Author : Charalampos Charalampidis; Veijo Pohjola; Dirk van As; Rickard Pettersson; Douglas Benn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate change; Greenland ice sheet; accumulation area; automatic weather stations; surface energy balance; melt–albedo feedback; surface mass budget; snow; firn; meltwater; percolation; refreezing; runoff;

    Abstract : The Greenland ice sheet is the largest Northern Hemisphere store of fresh water, and it is responding rapidly to the warming climate. In situ observations document the changing ice sheet properties in the lower accumulation area, Southwest Greenland. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cytokines and Neutrophils in the Urinary Tract Mucosa

    Author : Long Hang; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; neutrophils; chemokines; urinary tract infection; mucosa; epithelial cells; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : This study investigated the urinary tract cytokine reponse to infection and the role of chemokines for neutrophil recruitment to the urinary tract. The results suggest that 1) IL-8 and TGFb are consitutively produced by uroepithelial cells in vivo, and that uroepithelial cells are stimulated to produce IL-1b and IL-6 by uropathogenic Escherichia coli. Abstract : Antibodies are an essential part of the human immune system, and antibody mediated immunity has been an area of interest for many researchers for almost a century. An accumulation of knowledge regarding antibody structure, glycosylation and receptor interactions has contributed to the current understanding of antibody mediated immunity. READ MORE

    Abstract : The increasing prevalence of obesity is a worldwide health problem closely linked to diet and lifestyle factors. Obesity is associated with increased risk of several metabolic disorders including insulin resistance, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Mechanisms of HAMLET-induced cancer cell death

    Author : Sonja Aits; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; alpha-actinin; prohibitin; alpha-lactalbumin; HAMLET; cancer; cell death; autophagy; focal adhesions; c-Myc; hexokinase; glycolysis;

    Abstract : HAMLET, a complex of α-lactalbumin and oleic acid, preferentially kills cancer cells and is also effective in vivo. HAMLET causes apoptosis but cells die even if this pathway is inhibited. Thus, the role of autophagy, an alternative cell death pathway, was examined. READ MORE
