  1. 11. Analysis of plant growth regulating substances

    Author : Barbro Andersson; Bo Jansson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant regulators; phytohormones; pine; spruce; anther; abscisic acid; 3-indoleacetic acid; gibberellin Ag; N- 3-indoleacetyl -aspartic acid; dichlorophene; Amberlite XAD-7; identification; quantification; GC; HPLC; GC-MS; GC-MID; Hormoner;

    Abstract : Natural plant growth regulators (phytohormones) are a group of organic compounds which, in very small amounts, act as regulators of physiological processes in plants.Methods were developed for the analysis of phytohormones in samples from Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) and Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris (L. READ MORE

  2. 12. Industrial challenges in the use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae for ethanolic fermentation of lignocellulosic biomass

    Author : Violeta Sanchez Nogue; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Pentose fermentation; Evolutionary engineering; Acetic acid; pH; Short-term adaptation; Resident yeast; Spent sulphite liquor fermentation; Dekkera bruxellensis; Lactobacillus pentosus.;

    Abstract : The sustainable production of ethanol from lignocellulosic biomass requires the combination of efficient hydrolysis and complete fermentation of all the monomeric sugars present in the raw material. The present work was aimed at tackling some of the major challenges that will be encountered in commercial-scale ethanol production using Baker’s yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the preferred microorganism for the fermentation step. 3. 13. Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy Studies at the Air-Liquid Interface

    Author : Eric Tyrode; Mark Rutland; Paul Davies; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sum Frequency Generation; SFG; VSFS; surfactant; adsorption; water; surface structure; hydration; surface tension; fluorosurfactants; liquid-air interface; poly ethylene oxide surfactants; surface molecular orientation; acetic acid.; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis the structure and hydration of small organic and amphipilic compounds adsorbed at the air-liquid interface, have been studied using the nonlinear optical technique Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy (VSFS). The second order nature of the sum frequency process makes this technique particularly surface sensitive and very suitable for interfacial studies, as molecules at the surface can be distinguished even in the presence of a vast excess of the same molecules in the bulk. 4. 14. Bioprocess Monitoring and Control in Pseudomonas cepacia and recombinant Escherichia coli cultivations

    Author : Anita Tocaj; LTH Ingenjörshögskolan vid Campus Helsingborg; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; protein L; expanded bed; flow-injection analysis; recombinant protein production; acetic acid; on-line measurements; Pseudomonas cepacia; recombinant Escherichia coli; Fed-batch cultivations; control strategies; xylanase deletion derivatives from Rhodothermus marinus; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : The control of cultivation conditions and its influence on growth and production have been investigated. The use of fed-batch processes have been demonstrated for several cultivation systems and so has the use of different control signals in these systems. READ MORE

  5. 15. Strain- and bioprocess-design strategies to increase production of (R)-3-hydroxybutyrate by Escherichia coli

    Author : Mónica Guevara-Martínez; Gen Larsson; Antonius J. A. van Maris; Pau Ferrer; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; E. coli; R -3-hydroxybutyrate; metabolic engineering; bioprocess design; NADPH; acetic acid; thioesterase; BAC; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Microbial bio-based processes have emerged as an alternative to replace fossil-based processes for the production of fuels and chemicals. (R)-3-hydroxybutyrate (3HB) is a medium-value chemical that has gained special attention as a precursor of antibiotics and vitamins, as a monomer for the synthesis of tailor-made polyesters and as a nutritional source for eukaryotic cells.
