16. Development of Dual-broadband Rotational CARS for Combustion Diagnostics
Abstract : The present thesis concerns development and application of dual-broadband rotational coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (DB-RCARS) for temperature and species concentration measurements in combustion processes. Both fundamental development of the technique, including experimental as well as modelling results, and measurements in practical combustion devices were conducted. READ MORE

17. Carbon Monoxide in Catalytic Hydrogenations: A Poison or a Promoter?
Abstract : The hydrogenation of a,b-unsaturated aldehydes was studied over a platinum catalyst. It was shown that the catalyst was rapidly deactivated by CO formed by decarbonylation of the aldehyde. This deactivation was suppressed by the addition of small amounts of oxygen to the feed, since CO was oxidized to CO2 in the presence of oxygen. READ MORE

18. Nanoelectromechanical systems from carbon nanotubes and graphene
Abstract : Carbon nanotubes and graphene have many interesting properties. To exploit the properties in applications their synthesis and incorporation in devices has to be understood and controlled. This thesis is based on experimental studies on synthesis of carbon nanotubes and fabrication of nanoelectromechanical systems from carbon nanotubes and graphene. READ MORE

19. Design and Synthesis of 11C-Labelled Compound Libraries for the Molecular Imaging of EGFr, VEGFr-2, AT1 and AT2 Receptors : Transition-Metal Mediated Carbonylations Using [11C]Carbon Monoxide
Abstract : This work deals with radiochemistry and new approaches to develop novel PET tracers labelled with the radionuclide 11C.Two methods for the synthesis of 11C-labelled acrylamides have been explored. READ MORE

20. Chemical Bonding of Hydrocarbons to Metal Surfaces
Abstract : Using x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), x-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) in combination with density functional theory (DFT) the changes in electronic and geometric structure of hydrocarbons upon adsorption are determined. The chemical bonding is analyzed and the results provide new insights in the mechanisms responsible for dehydrogenation in heterogeneous catalysis. READ MORE
