1. Perception, Analysis and Synthesis of Speaker Age
Abstract : Speaker age is an important paralinguistic feature in speech which has to be considered in the study of phonetic variation. Knowledge about this feature may be used to improve speech technology applications, e.g. automatic speech recognition and speech synthesis. READ MORE

2. Drum sound from floor coverings - objective and subjective assessment
Abstract : Drum sound is the sound produced when an object, such as a foot, hits the flooring in the room in which the receiving ear is located. Drum sound has attracted interest in recent years, particularly due to an increased use of thin floating floor constructions, such as veneer or laminate flooring, which can produce loud and sharp walking sound. 3. From Acoustics to Articulation : Study of the acoustic-articulatory relationship along with methods to normalize and adapt to variations in production across different speakers
Abstract : The focus of this thesis is the relationship between the articulation ofspeech and the acoustics of produced speech. There are several problems thatare encountered in understanding this relationship, given the non-linearity,variance and non-uniqueness in the mapping, as well as the differences thatexist in the size and shape of the articulators, and consequently the acoustics, for different speakers. 4. Perceptual reorganization of vowels : Separating the linguistic and acoustic parts of the mismatch response
Abstract : During the first year of life, infants go from perceiving speech sounds primarily based on their acoustic characteristics, to perceiving speech sounds as belonging to speech sound categories relevant in their native language(s). The transition is apparent in that very young infants typically discriminate both native and non-native speech sound contrasts, whereas older infants show better discrimination for native contrasts and worse or no discrimination for non-native contrasts. 5. The role of glucocorticoid receptors and mitogen-regulated protein kinases in the cochlea
Abstract : Hearing loss induced by acoustic trauma is a common handicap for the human population. Acoustic trauma triggers a cascade of changes in the cochlea such as a direct mechanical damage of sensory hair cells, biochemical disturbances including reactive oxygen and nitrogen species generation, release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and exitotoxicity.
