  1. 1. A Combined Perceptual and Acoustical Account of US Dialect Distance

    Author : Clelia R. LaMonica; Peter Sundkvist; Cynthia Clopper; Anja Schüppert; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; US English; dialects; dialectometry; perception; acoustics; sociophonetics; English; engelska;

    Abstract : This study examines the influence of attitudinal, perceptual, and acoustic factors on the categorization of US dialects by comparing acoustic-vocalic and perceived accent distances. The results of native and non-native listeners’ perceived distances between US regional accents are investigated in light of how acoustic-phonetic markers, attitudinal judgments, and identifiability may together impact how similar or different accents are perceived to be. 2. 2. The layer that did not swim away : Broadband acoustic discrimination and characterization of ocean stratification

    Author : Elizabeth Reed-Weidner; Martin Jakobsson; Richard Hobbs; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Acoustical Oceanography; acoustics; oceanography; stratification; remote sensing; maringeologi; Marine Geology;

    Abstract : Ocean stratification plays a critical role in many oceanographic processes. The magnitude of mixing between stable water masses is regulated, in part, by the intensity of stratification. READ MORE

  3. 3. Aerodynamic and Aeroacoustic Analysis of a Multi-Element Airfoil using Hybrid RANS/LES Modeling Approaches

    Author : Bastian Nebenführ; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings; HYB0; noise; hybrid RANS LES; multi-element airfoil; CAA; Kirchhoff; Curle; high-lift;

    Abstract : Global hybrid RANS/LES simulations were used for computing the turbulent flow around a three-element airfoil. Based on the results of the flow computations, a comprehensive analysis of the flow properties was performed. READ MORE

  4. 4. Methods for specification of sound quality applied to saxophone sound

    Author : Arne Nykänen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Teknisk akustik; Engineering Acoustics;

    Abstract : Product specifications that include descriptors of sound qualities are most helpful when a description contains adequate detail and utilises understandable wording. Good specifications require that any descriptions used are familiar to users and that these descriptions are interpretable as acoustical quantities. READ MORE

  5. 5. On Dimension Reduction in Sensor Array Signal Processing

    Author : Sören Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : During the last decades, sensor array signal processing has been a very active research area. More recently, relations between many of the proposed methods has been examined. The problem of assessing the estimation accuracy of these methods has also been addressed. READ MORE
