  1. 1. Preparation and Evaluation of New Nanoporous Silica Materials for Molecular Filtration and for Core Materials in Vacuum Insulation Panels

    Author : Ebenezer Twumasi Afriyie; Folke Björk; Christer Sjöström; Kjartan Gudmundsson; Per Jostein Hovde; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adsorbents; activated carbon; MgCa-silica; carbon-silica composite; characterization; porous parameters; molecular filtration; thermal conductivity; thermal insulation;

    Abstract : Nanoporous materials for gas purification and thermal insulation have been studied and developed for application in many areas. It is known that a single adsorbent may not adequately control multiple contaminants. Further the utilization of nanoporous material as thermal insulator in building applications is limited due to high cost. READ MORE

  2. 2. Properties and applications of materials based on graphite oxide

    Author : Andreas Nordenström; Aleksandr V. Talyzin; Thomas Wågberg; Andrey Turchanin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Graphene; Graphite Oxide; Graphene Oxide; Swelling; Phase Transition; Intercalation; Activated Graphene; Activated Carbon; Supercapacitors; Neutron Reflectometry;

    Abstract : Graphite oxide (GO) is a hydrophilic, layered material prepared by oxidation of graphite. In the first part of this thesis, we studied materials produced from GO by intercalation and functionalization. The second part of the thesis was focused on supercapacitor applications of high surface area carbons prepared from GO using chemical activation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Molecular filtration : the study of adsorbents

    Author : Ebenezer Twumasi; Christer Sjöström; Paolo Tronville; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; adsorbents; activated carbon; alumina; MgCa-silica; carbon-silica composite; characterization; porous parameters; molecular filtration; Other civil engineering and architecture; Övrig samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Abstract : Adsorbent materials for gas purification have been studied and developed for application in many areas. It is known that a single adsorbent may not adequately control multiple contaminants. Therefore, the development of adsorbent materials has accelerated over the past two decades, and is today an area attracting a lot of attention. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modification of zeolites and synthesis of SAPO-templated carbon

    Author : Yunxiang Li; Niklas Hedin; Anders Palmqvist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microporous material; zeolite; SAPO templated carbon; hydrothermal synthesis; CVD; post modification; direct modification; snowflake; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Abstract : Zeolites are crystalline aluminosilicates with diverse structures and uniform porosities. They are widely used as catalysts, adsorbents and ion-exchangers in industry. Direct or post modifications optimize the performance of zeolites for different applications. In this thesis, IZM-2 and TON-type zeolites were synthesized, modified and studied. READ MORE

    Author : Malin Nording; Peter Haglund; Ron Hoogenboom; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; accelerated solvent extraction; CAFLUX; food; immunoassay; PAH; PCDD; PCDF; pressurized liquid extraction; soil; CALUX; cell-based bioassay; chemically activated fluorescent gene expression; chemically activated luciferase gene expression; dioxin; ELISA; enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay; feed; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Large numbers of samples often need to be prepared and analysed in surveys of organic pollutants in the environment, but while the methods commonly used in such surveys can provide abundant detail they are generally costly, time-consuming and require large amounts of resources, so there is a need for simpler techniques. The work underlying this thesis assessed the potential utility of more convenient sample preparation and bioanalytical techniques for rapidly screening various environmental matrices that could be useful complements to higher resolution methods.
