  1. 6. Tumor-stroma interactions in hepatocellular carcinoma

    Author : Nataša Pavlović; Femke Heindryckx; Jessica Maiers; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hepatocellular carcinoma; fibrosis; endoplasmic reticulum stress; unfolded protein response; platelets; P2Y12; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a highly deadly primary liver cancer with a rising global incidence and limited therapeutic options, is characterized by a vicious cross-talk between the tumor and its surrounding hepatic stroma. The stromal environment, consisting of hepatic stellate cells (HSC), endothelial cells, resident and infiltrating macrophages and other immune cells, platelets and extracellular matrix (ECM) components, actively contributes to creating an ideal niche for tumor proliferation and invasiveness. 2. 7. The Role of Histidine-rich Glycoprotein in Angiogenesis and Tumor Growth

    Author : Åsa Thulin; Anna-Karin Olsson; Pirjo Laakkonen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Histidine-rich glycoprotein; HRG HRGP HPRG; angiogenesis inhibitor; cancer; VEGF; platelets; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : Histidine-rich glycoprotein (HRG) is a heparin-binding plasma protein modulating immune, hemostatic and vascular functions. I have studied the antiangiogenic functions of HRG in vitro and in vivo in order to understand the molecular mechanisms of action of HRG as an angiogenesis inhibitor. READ MORE

  3. 8. Leukocytes and Coronary Artery Disease : Experimental and Clinical Studies

    Author : Eva Lindmark; Peter Kierulf; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Tissue factor; monocytes; platelets; cytokines; endothelial cells; unstable coronary artery disease; coagulation; inflammation; biochemical markers; IL-6; risk stratification; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Tissue factor (TF) is the initiator of the coagulation cascade. Monocytes do not normally express TF, but can be induced to do so by certain stimuli. Aberrant TF expression is important in the thrombotic complications of bacterial sepsis, certain malignancies and coronary artery disease (CAD). READ MORE

  4. 9. Interactions between whole blood and TiO₂ surfaces with focus on adhesion and activation of PMN granulocytes

    Author : Cecilia Eriksson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; titanium; TiO2; surface roughness; oxide thickness; wettability; whole blood; inflammation; wound healing; platelets; PMN granulocytes; adhesion; activation; receptor expression; respiratory burst.;

    Abstract : Foreign materials come in contact with the human body more and more frequently. The surgical procedure of inserting an implant into the body will cause bleeding, evoke an inflammatory response and initiate a healing process, ultimately leading to acceptance or rejection of the material. 5. 10. Expression and Regulation of P2 Receptors in Human Circulation

    Author : Lingwei Wang; Sektion II; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Western blotting; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; vascular remodeling; systemic lupus erythematosus; smooth muscle cell; shear stress; real-time PCR; platelets; P2 receptor; gene expression; erythrocyte; ATP release; endothelium;

    Abstract : P2 receptors mediate the actions of the extracellular nucleotides ATP, ADP, UTP and UDP regulating several physiological responses including cardiac function, vascular tone, smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation, platelet aggregation, and the release of endothelial factors. The aim of the present study was to investigate the mRNA and protein expression of P2 receptors in human SMCs, endothelial cells (ECs), erythrocytes and platelets, the regulation of P2 receptors under shear stress in human vessels, the changes of platelet P2 receptors in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and the regulation of plasma ATP levels by P2 receptor on erythrocytes.
