  1. 11. Biological effects of glucose degradation products in peritoneal dialysis fluids

    Author : Peter Jonasson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Peritoneal dialysis; glucose degradation products; peritonitis; peritoneum; neutrophils; macrophages; vital microscopy; microcirculation; complement; leukocyte recruitment; respiratory burst.;

    Abstract : Background: It is well known that Peritoneal dialysis (PD) fluids have biological effects on a number of cells and tissues in the peritoneum and the peritoneal cavity. However, little attention has been paid to the influence of glucose degradation products (GDPs), formed during heat-sterilization and storage of PD fluids. READ MORE

  2. 12. Recycling and durability of PVC materials focusing on pre- and post-consumer wastes from building products

    Author : Nazdaneh Yarahmadi; SP – Sveriges Tekniska Forskningsinstitut *(2016-12-31) SP – Sveriges Tekniska Forskningsinstitut; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Accelerated ageing; Activation energy; Annealing; Cables; Dehydrochlorination; Dismantling; DSC; Elongation at break; Emissions; Energy recovery; Flooring; Heat ageing; Lifetime; Orientation; Physical ageing; Plasticised PVC; Plasticiser depletion; Profiles; Recycling; Repeated extrusion; Residual stability; Rigid PVC; Sustainable building; Chlorination; Degradation; Durability; Mechanical properties; Plastic building materials; Plasticizers; Stabilizers agents ; Tensile properties; Molecular level; Polyvinyl chlorides;

    Abstract : The potential for recycling various polymeric materials contained within buildings constructed in the late 1960s and 1970s in Sweden was investigated during the course of this work. Three residential blocks were studied to establish the quantity of materials available for recycling, to investigate the difficulty in and time needed for the dismantling of the buildings, the degree of purity of the materials, and the possibility of separating the materials. 3. 13. Iridium-Catalyzed C−H Activation Methods for Late-Stage Functionalization of Pharmaceuticals

    Author : Erik Weis; Belén Martín‐Matute; Jin-Quan Yu; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; amination; catalysis; C-H activation; C-H functionalization; high-throughput experimentation; iodination; iridium; isotope labelling; late-stage functionalization; methylation; Organic Chemistry; organisk kemi;

    Abstract : C-H activations have over the recent decades risen from a mere curiosity to a viable synthetic strategy. However, challenges in terms of accessible transformations, selectivity and functional group tolerance limit the widespread applicability of this approach. READ MORE

  4. 14. Reactions of aqueous radiolysis products with oxide surfaces : An experimental and DFT study

    Author : Cláudio Miguel Lousada Patrício; Mats Jonsson; Jean-Philippe Renault; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydrogen peroxide; hydrogen production; metal; oxides; lanthanide; catalysis; density functional theory; surface; reactions; chemistry; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi; SRA - Production; SRA - Produktion;

    Abstract : The reactions between aqueous radiolysis products and oxide surfaces are important in nuclear technology in many ways. In solid-liquid systems, they affect (and at the same time are dependent on) both the solution chemistry and the stability of materials under the influence of ionizing radiation. READ MORE

  5. 15. Priming and activation of neutrophils from blood and tissue

    Author : Lisa Davidsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neutrophil; priming; gout; inflammation; transmigration; neutrophil extracellular traps NETs ;

    Abstract : Inflammation is a powerful process, involved in many disease states, as well as in physiological situations. Neutrophils, the main characters of this thesis, are potent immune cells with the capacity to regulate inflammatory responses. In health, circulating blood neutrophils are regarded as quiescent, with limited responsiveness to stimuli. READ MORE
