  1. 16. Molecular genetic studies on cerebrospinal fluid monoamine metabolites in psychotic patients and healthy individuals

    Author : Dimitrios Andreou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Cerebrospinal fluid CSF ;

    Abstract : Dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline are the major monoamines in the human central nervous system (CNS) and following their basic pathways they are degraded to their major metabolites homovanillic acid (HVA), 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol (MHPG), respectively. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentrations of the three monoamine metabolites (MM) are considered to reflect the monoamine turnover rates in the CNS, are under genetic influence and have been associated with schizophrenia. 2. 17. Innate immune modulation in atherosclerosis : with focus on ApoB100 derived danger associated signal 1 (ApoBDS-1)

    Author : Yajuan Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Elevated level of LDL is the most important risk factor for atherosclerosis. ApoB100 is the only unexchangeable protein in LDL particle. Recent reports have shown that native peptides of ApoB100 trigger activation of adaptive immune responses. Whether ApoB100 can activate innate immune response is unknown. READ MORE

  3. 18. Matrix degrading proteases in vascular disease

    Author : Sofia Jormsjö-Pettersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Atherosclerosis; abdominal aortic aneurysm; MMP; cathepsin; polymorphism; in vitro; proteases; extracellular matrix.;

    Abstract : Diverse processes of vascular disease including lesion growth, plaque rupture and abdominal aortic aneurysm formation are influenced by protease expression. Arteries undergo compensatory remodelling when the mechanical forces that are imposed on them are altered. READ MORE

  4. 19. Transcriptional Regulation of the Platelet-Derived Growth Factor B-receptor by p53 Family Members

    Author : Daniel Wetterskog; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Aims: The platelet-derived growth factor ?-receptor (PDGFRB) is critically involved in embryonic development and has a role in many diseases. In cells, signaling through PDGFRB affects growth, migration and death. READ MORE

  5. 20. Signaling and transcriptional regulation of antimicrobial peptide genes in Drosophila melanogaster

    Author : Hanna Uvell; Ylva Engström; Won-Jae Lee; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; antimicrobial peptides; drosophila; immunity; transcriptiona regulation; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Insects rely solely on innate immune reactions for protection against infect-ing microbes in their environment. In Drosophila, one major defense mechanism is the production of a battery of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). READ MORE
