  1. 6. Damage Segregation and Cellular Rejuvenation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Sandra Malmgren Hill; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aging; protein damage; quality control; metacaspase; aggregates; segregation; vacuole;

    Abstract : The process of aging is defined as a time-dependent decline in cellular functionality, and aging is thought to have evolved as organisms were optimized for reproduction, at the cost of an imperfect repair and maintenance system. As a consequence, different kinds of dysfunctional components and damage accumulate over time. READ MORE

  2. 7. Regulation of insulin secretion in diabetes: Molecular mechanism and applications

    Author : Rui Wu; Diabetes - öpatofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Insulin production secretion; CaV channels; DEGs; aging; magnetic field;

    Abstract : Diabetes is a highly ageing-related disease manifesting with a deteriorated capacity of insulin secretion and uncontrolled blood glucose-raising, hyperglycemia. In this thesis, we aim to explore the underlying roles of CaV channels and aging-associated genetic changes in the development of Type 2 diabetes (T2D). READ MORE

  3. 8. Growing old and still practising competitive sports : An exploration of acting-space and sense-making processes among old women and men

    Author : Josefin Eman; Carita Bengs; Annette Schnabel; Gertrud Pfister; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; aging; sports; gender; acting-space; sense making; old athletes; the process of growing old; sociologi; Sociology;

    Abstract : The thesis explores how the way athletically active old men and women make sense of their acting-space affects their participation in competitive sports and conversely how their participation in competitive sports affect their sense-making process and acting-space. It puts emphasis on the sociological point of intersection of three different research fields; sports science, critical gerontology and gender studies. READ MORE

  4. 9. The Role of Hepatic Leukemia Factor in Hematopoiesis

    Author : Karolina Komorowska; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematopoiesis; Hematopoietic Stem Cells; knockout mice; HLF; Transcription Factor; aging;

    Abstract : The development of therapeutic methods based on stem cells (e.g. cell therapy, activating regeneration and organ transplantation), known as regenerative medicine, is still a novel area in the field of life sciences. READ MORE

  5. 10. Development and Assessment of Regeneration Methods for Commercial Automotive Three-Way Catalysts

    Author : Henrik Birgersson; Magali Boutonnet; Jim A. Andersson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; automotive catalyst; TWC; aging; sintering; Pd Rh; Pt Rh; regeneration; oxy-chlorination; dispersion; acid-leaching; mathematical modeling; reaction kinetics; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Car exhaust catalysts were introduced in the early 1980’s, to limit the release of pollutants such as hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides. These catalysts contain noble metals such as palladium (Pd), platinum (Pt) and rhodium (Rh) and are able to simultaneously abate all three of the above-mentioned pollutants, hence the name three-way catalyst (TWC).
