1. Active Matter in a Critical State: From passive building blocks to active molecules, engines, and active droplets
Abstract : The motion of microscopic objects is strongly affected by their surrounding environment. In quiescent liquids, motion is reduced to random fluctuations known as Brownian motion. Nevertheless, microorganisms have been able to develop mechanisms to generate active motion. READ MORE

2. Dynamic Wetting of Solid Surfaces, Influence of Surface Structures and Surface Active Polymers
Abstract : The effect of surface structures on the dynamics of wetting was investigated through measurements of the dynamic contact angle and spreading velocity of oil droplets spreading over surfaces with parallel and gridlike V-shaped channels. A rim of liquid was observed to spread out in the channels ahead of the dropfront after a short time of spreading (seconds). READ MORE

3. Perfluorocarbon microdroplets stabilized by cellulose nanofibers : Toward ultrasound-mediated diagnostics and therapy
Abstract : Ultrasound contrast agents consist of gas-filled micrometer-sized bubbles that are injectedinto the blood stream. Ultrasound contrast agents are an invaluable tool for ultrasound imaging of the cardiac muscle and highly vascularized structures such as kidneys and the liver. READ MORE

4. Submicron gas bubbles in water
Abstract : Gas bubbles smaller than 1 micrometre in water, commonly referred to as nanobubbles, is a growing field of research and innovation. Applications range from medical imaging and drug delivery to mining industry and environmental remediation. READ MORE

5. Beyond Köhler theory : Molecular dynamics simulations as a tool for atmospheric science
Abstract : In this thesis, the results from molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of nanoaerosol clusters are discussed. The connecting link of these studies is the Köhler theory, which is the theory of condensational growth and activation of cloud droplets to form clouds. READ MORE
