    Abstract : Gas detection is crucial in a wide range of fields and applications, such as safety and process control in the industry, atmospheric sciences, and breath diagnostics. Optical gas sensing offers some key advantages, compared to other sensing methods such as electrochemical and semiconductor sensing: high specificity, fast response, and minimal drift. READ MORE

  2. 7. Nucleic Acids as Drugs and Drug Targets With Focus on Anticancer Active Platinum Complexes and Small Interfering RNAs

    Author : Hanna Hedman; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Anticancer drugs; platinum complexes; cisplatin; oxaliplatin; nucleic acid; RNA; DNA; siRNA; thermodynamic stability; mass spectrometry; MALDI-MS; chemical probing; luciferase assay;

    Abstract : To ensure that patients receive a safe and effective treatment, it is important to understand how drugs interact with and affect molecules within a cell. Here, evaluation of platinum based drugs and their ability to interfere with nucleic acid functions is presented. READ MORE

  3. 8. Modelling and simulation of building components : thermal interaction between multilayer wall and hydronic radiator

    Author : Christian Brembilla; Thomas Olofsson; Per Sahlin; Persson Leif; Annika Moström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydronic radiator; multilayer wall; efficiencies of emission; systemanalys; Systems Analysis; engineering science with specialization in microsystems technology; teknisk fysik med inriktningen mikrosystemteknik;

    Abstract : Background and Scope: The scope of this thesis is to investigate the thermal behaviour of building components as hydronic radiator and multilayer walls subjected to dynamic conditions. The modelling and simulation of these building components provide information on how these components thermally interact among each other. READ MORE

  4. 9. Long-term properties of polyethylene films : efficiency of a natural antioxidant

    Author : Clara Strandberg; Ann-Christine Albertsson; Jukka Seppälä; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polymer Technology; alfa-tocopherol; Polyethylene PE ; Thermal aging; Infrared Spectroscopy FT-IR ; Chemiluminescence CL ; Solid-phase microextraction SPME ; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : There is a growing awareness of the risks of pollution in biological systems and one potential problem is the synthetic antioxidants, used for e.g. the stabilisation of polymeric materials. Natural antioxidants are an interesting alternative, if the high efficiency and thermal stability of the synthetic compounds can be reached. READ MORE

  5. 10. Asymptotic Giant Branch stars viewed up-close and far-off : The physics, chemistry, and evolution of their circumstellar envelopes

    Author : Matthias Maercker; Hans Olofsson; Fredrik L. Schöier; Laurentius B. F. M. Waters; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; AGB stars; evolution; mass-loss; abundances; Astronomy; Astronomi; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : The asymptotic giant branch (AGB) is the last stage of stellar evolution for stars with masses between 0.8-8 M(sun). This phase is characterised by an intense mass loss, which builds up a circumstellar envelope of dust and gas(CSE). It is through this process that the AGB stars contribute to the chemical evolution of galaxies. READ MORE
