16. Inflammatory response and intervention in experimental acute pancreatitis
Abstract : Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common disease where underlying mechanisms for the local initiating events in the pancreas, the systemic dissemination of the inflammatory response and remote organ dysfunction still are unclear. The overall aim of the thesis was to study mechanisms of the inflammatory response in AP with special emphasis on local, systemic, and distant organ injury directed at different signalling pathways, and potential therapeutic strategies to prevent the development of inflammation and cell injury following AP. 17. Acute pancreatitis. With special reference to the activation peptide from carboxypeptidase B (CAPAP) as a predictor of severity
Abstract : There is a wide range in the reported annual incidence of acute pancreatitis (AP). A minority of these patients develop a severe disease characterised by a high mortality and morbidity. In order to improve the outcome for patients with an attack of severe AP it is important to identify these patients early in the course of disease. READ MORE

18. On obesity in acute pancreatitis
Abstract : Over-nutrition is one of today s most visible public health problems. Currently over 40% of the Swedish population is either overweight or obese. Acute pancreatitis (AP) is an acute inflammatory process of the pancreas with variable involvement of regional tissues and/or remote organ systems. READ MORE

19. INITIATION OF EXPERIMENTAL ACUTE PANCREATITIS AND MODULATION OF INFLAMMATORY RESPONSE
Abstract : Heparan sulfate (HS), a substance common in the extracellular matrix on epithelial cells is present in the pancreas, lining the duct lumen. During pathological conditions, we propose that it can be shed from the ECM and bind to receptors on the cell surface, thus triggering an inflammatory response, which if excessive can cause acute pancreatitis (AP).
