  1. 1. Resilience in High Risk Work : Analysing Adaptive Performance

    Author : Amy Rankin; Henrik Eriksson; Margareta Lützhöft; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Resilience Engineering; Safety Management; Adaptive Capacity; Improvisation;

    Abstract : In today’s complexsocio-technical systems it is not possible to foresee and prepare for allfuture events. To cope with the intricacy and coupling between people,technical systems and the dynamic environment people are required tocontinuously adapt. READ MORE

  2. 2. Uncertain Futures : Adaptive capacities to climate variability and change in the Lake Victoria Basin

    Author : Sara Gabrielsson; LUCSUS; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; adaptive capacities; climate vulnerability; collective action; Lake Victoria Basin; smallholder farmers; sustainable adaptation; sustainability science.;

    Abstract : The Lake Victoria basin (LVB) in East Africa can be considered a climate change hotspot because of its large rural population dependent on rain-fed farming. Drawing on extensive fieldwork (2007-2011) in rural communities along the shores of Lake Victoria in Kenya and Tanzania, I explore adaptive capacities to climate variability and change and discuss how they interrelate in situ. 3. 3. Analysing the emergence of risk : - an opportunity for patient safety

    Author : Jakob Svensson; Avdelningen för Riskhantering och Samhällssäkerhet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Patient safety; Psychiatry; Risk; Emergence; Performance variability; adaptive capacities;

    Abstract : The notion of patient safety entails protecting patients from preventable harm. This thesis presents suggestions on how the healthcare system, notably psychiatric healthcare, can understand and analyse patient safety risk as an emergent property of everyday interactions and relations. This view has itsconceptual roots in complexity theory. READ MORE

  4. 4. On MIMO Systems and Adaptive Arrays for Wireless Communication : Analysis and Practical Aspects

    Author : Mattias Wennström; Michael A. Jensen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systemteknik; antenna array; calibration; MIMO system; flat fading; non-linear amplifier; switched parasitic antenna; analog beamformer; adaptive antenna testbed; Systemteknik; Systems engineering; Systemteknik; Signal Processing; signalbehandling;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with the use of multiple antenna elements in wireless communication over frequency non-selective radio channels. Both measurement results and theoretical analysis are presented. New transmit strategies are derived and compared to existing transmit strategies, such as beamforming and space-time block coding (STBC). READ MORE

  5. 5. Adaptive capacity for social and environmental change : The role of networks in Chile’s small-scale fisheries

    Author : Andrés Marín; Beatrice Crona; Nadine Marshall; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; artisanal; benthic; Chile; coastal areas; collaborative management; disasters; ecosystem services; hazards; livelihoods; post-disaster; QCA; recovery; TURFs; Análisis Cualitativo Comparativo; artesanal; bentónico; Chile; desastres; manejo colaborativo; medios de vida; peligros; post desastre; recuperación; servicios ecosistémicos; zonas costeras; Sustainability Science; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling;

    Abstract : World’s small-scale fisheries (SSF) face permanent and increasing external changes and shocks that challenge their viability and potential as an engine of human sustainable development. It is broadly assumed and expected that fishers and their communities have the capacity to adapt to current and future social and ecological changes. READ MORE
