  1. 6. Efficient Coding Techniques for Networks & Channels with Transmission Errors

    Author : Ming Xiao; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Channels with Errors; Low-Density Generation-Matrix Codes; Sink Bit Error Probability; Continuous Phase Modulation; Maximum-Likelihood Decoding; Cross-Layer Design; Network Coding; Ring Convolutional Codes; Adaptive Codes.; Deterministic Rateless Codes;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of two parts, both of whichinvestigate coding techniques for information transmission throughchannels in the presence of errors. Part I discusses topics ofnetwork coding and rateless codes. Part~II considers channel codesfor continuous phase modulation. These two parts are clearlydifferent, but they are also related. 2. 7. Climate change adaptation processes : Regional and sectoral stakeholder perspectives

    Author : Karin André; Björn-Ola Linnér; Louise Simonsson; Anna Jonsson; Kate Lonsdale; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Adaptation processes; adaptive capacity; climate change; forestry; participatory methods; perceptions; private and public organizations; risks; roles; stakeholder dialogues; stakeholders; Sweden; transdisciplinarity; urban regions; Anpassningskapacitet; anpassningsprocesser; deltagandemetoder; intressenter; intressentdialoger; klimatförändringar; privata och offentliga organisationer; risker; roller; skogsbruk; Sverige; transdisciplinaritet; uppfattningar; urbana regioner;

    Abstract : This thesis analyses how societal adaptation processes in public and private sectors at the regional to local level in Sweden are enacted. The thesis pays particular attention to critical factors that constrain or enable adaptation by focussing on: who are the stakeholders, how do different stakeholders perceive their capacity to adapt, and the role of stakeholder interaction in facilitating adaptation processes A combination of two analytical perspectives is used where one is based on key concepts within adaptation literature, and the other draws on boundary crossing and transdisciplinary knowledge production (stakeholders, adaptive capacity, and science-based stakeholder dialogues). Abstract : This thesis investigates the role of different short-term electricity market design aspects that can facilitate better coordination of resources within the power system. The work also emphasizes on better cross-border integration of the short-term markets to improve the market liquidity, competition, social welfare, and flexibility in the system, which is essential for facilitating the integration of renewable sources. 4. 9. Functions and memory features of adaptive- and innate immune cells in physiological and inflammatory settings

    Author : Gintare Lasaviciute; Eva Sverremark-Ekström; Silke Appel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Innate immune memory; Limosilactobacillus reuteri; dendritic cells; lymphocytes; cytokines; immunological memory; intestinal epithelial cells; chemotherapy; bone marrow; secondary lymphoid organs; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : The immune system is a complex but well-regulated network which cooperates with the microbiota to maintain optimal homeostasis under physiological settings. A number of factors display the capacity to alter the immune system and thus microbiota crosstalk including host genetics, diet, environmental influences and drugs such as antibiotics or chemotherapeutic agents. 5. 10. Climate Change Resilience : exploring socio-ecological system resilience for livelihood effects of climate change in peri-urban areas

    Author : Lazaro Mngumi; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Ecosystem services are increasingly regarded as having the potential for building resilience to the effects of climate change in urban areas. Despite this, the knowledge of ecosystem services typologies aligned with analysis of how they might contribute in building resilience for specific effects of climate change is largely lacking, especially in peri-urban areas in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).
