  1. 11. Biomarkers of ionising radiation relevant to carcinogenesis : Dose, dose rate and LET dependency of the responses

    Author : Milagrosa López Riego; Andrzej Wojcik; Lovisa Lundholm; Alexandros G. Georgakilas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ionising radiation; low dose; low dose rate; linear energy transfer LET ; mixed beams; dose and dose rate effectiveness factor DDREF ; cancer; DNA damage response; biomarkers; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : A better understanding of the relationship between ionising radiation (IR) dose, dose rate and radiation quality, and the risk of stochastic effects would improve risk extrapolation from atomic bomb survivors’ data. Owing to insufficient statistical power of epidemiological studies to detect excess incidence of cancer following low doses of IR delivered at low dose rates (LDLDR), as typically encountered in most common human exposure scenarios, radiobiological experiments are fundamental to describe the biological effectiveness of LDLDR and to define the underlying molecular mechanisms. 2. 12. Inequalities for some classes of Hardy type operators and compactness in weighted Lebesgue spaces

    Author : Akbota Abylayeva; Peter Wall; Lars-Erik Persson; Ryskul Oinarov; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : This PhD thesis is devoted to investigate weighted differential Hardy inequalities and Hardy-type inequalities with the kernel when the kernel has an integrable singularity, and also the additivity of the estimate of a Hardy type operator with a kernel.The thesis consists of seven papers (Papers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) and an introduction where a review on the subject of the thesis is given. 3. 13. Experiments with Entangled Photons : Bell Inequalities, Non-local Games and Bound Entanglement

    Author : Muhammad Sadiq; Mohamed Bourennane; Rupert Ursin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Quantum mechanics is undoubtedly a weird field of science, which violates many deep conceptual tenets of classical physics, requiring reconsideration of the concepts on which classical physics is based. For instance, it permits persistent correlations between classically separated systems, that are termed as entanglement. READ MORE

  4. 14. Cellular responses to combined irradiation with alpha particles and X-rays

    Author : Alice Sollazzo; Andrzej Wojcik; Alexandros Georgakilas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Radiation; DNA damage; mutations; alpha particles; X-rays; mixed beam; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Mixed radiation fields, where different ionizing particles act together, are very important in radiobiology and in radiation protection. Mixed beams are not only the most common form of radiation exposure, but the prediction of their biological effect is also full of uncertainties. READ MORE

  5. 15. Cellular effects after exposure to mixed beams of ionizing radiation

    Author : Elina Staaf; Andrzej Wojcik; Siamak Haghdoost; Eva Forssell-Aronsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ionizing radiation; high LET; low LET; mixed beams; combined exposure; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Abstract : Mixed beams of ionizing radiation in our environment originate from space, the bedrock and our own houses. Radiotherapy patients treated with boron neutron capture therapy or with high energy photons are also exposed to mixed beams of gamma radiation and neutrons. READ MORE
