  1. 11. Vardenafil and methylarginines in pulmonary hypertension

    Author : Anna Sandqvist; Gerhard Wikström; Jörn Schneede; Amrita Ahluwalia; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vardenafil; pulmonary hypertension; pharmacokinetics; haemodynamics; right heart catheterization; adenosine; dimethylarginines; phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors; endothelin receptor antagonists; klinisk farmakologi; Clinical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a rare condition characterized by endothelial dysfunction and vascular remodelling, leading to increased pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) and right ventricular heart failure. Endothelial dysfunction is associated with an imbalance between vasoconstrictor compounds, such as endothelin and thromboxane A2, and vasodilator compounds, such as prostacyclin and nitric oxide (NO). 2. 12. Striatal adenosine A2A receptors

    Author : Per Svenningsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : caffeine; adenosine; A2A receptors; dopamine receptors; striatum; basal ganglia; immediate early genes; c-fos; NGFI-A; DARPP-32; in situ hybridization;

    Abstract : The nucleoside adenosine exerts a modulatory action in the central nervous system by activating G-protein coupled receptors. Four such receptors are cloned and pharmacologically characterized: A1, A2A, A2B and A3. Caffeine, the most widely consumed psychostimulant, acts as an adenosine receptor antagonist predominantly on the first two. READ MORE

  3. 13. Adenosine Regulation of Neutrophil Function

    Author : Stefan Zalavary; Bertil Fredholm; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The neutrophil granulocyte is an essential component of the human immune system. When rrricrobes invade the body, the highly motile neutrophils quickly leave the vascular compartment and approach, engulf and kill the intruders by releasing a battery of antimicrobial substances. 4. 14. Studies of nucleotide receptors-induced calcium response in glomerular mesangial cells and afferent arterioles

    Author : Antonio M. Gutiérrez; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; mesangial cells; nucleotide receptors; purinoceptors; desensitization; afferent arterioles; ATP; UTP; adenosine; protein phosphatases; calcium; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : It is known that intracellular calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i) changes in rat glomerular mesangial cells (GMC) and rabbit afferent arterioles (AA) in response to extracellular nucleotides. We studied the nucleotide-induced calcium response in cultured GMC and AA. READ MORE

  5. 15. Modulation of neutrophil extracellular trap formation in health and disease

    Author : Ava Hosseinzadeh; Constantin F. Urban; Carol Munro; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neutrophils; Candida albicans; Adenosine; Tempol; Nicotine; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The critical prompt innate immune response is highly built upon the influx of neutrophils from the blood stream to the site of infection. In the battlefield, neutrophils sense pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) through their pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs) to launch a number of responses with the goal to defeat the invading pathogen.
