21. Studies on mitochondrial adenosine triphosphatase : uncoupler-reversible inhibition of mitochondrial ATPase and related enzymes by metal chelates of bathophenenthroline
Abstract : The mitochondrial ATPase constitutes the terminal enzyme of oxidative phosphorylation and is, together with similar enzymes present in chloroplasts and bacteria, responsible for the synthesis of ATP from ADP and Pi during electron transport. The enzyme consists of an extrinsic, catalytically active part, called Fl, that is structurally and functionally linked to an intrinsic, proton-translocating device, called Fo. READ MORE

22. PARN – The Tail End : Function and mechanisms of specificity and processivity
Abstract : Poly(A)-specific ribonuclease (PARN) is an exoribonuclease that is processive, poly(A) specific and cap-binding. PARN deadenylates the poly(A) tails present on a subset of mRNAs and non-coding RNAs, including among others certain snoRNAs, miRNAs and precursor rRNAs. READ MORE

23. Vardenafil and methylarginines in pulmonary hypertension
Abstract : Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a rare condition characterized by endothelial dysfunction and vascular remodelling, leading to increased pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) and right ventricular heart failure. Endothelial dysfunction is associated with an imbalance between vasoconstrictor compounds, such as endothelin and thromboxane A2, and vasodilator compounds, such as prostacyclin and nitric oxide (NO). 24. Studies of cAMP and Ca2+ signaling in pancreatic islet cells
Abstract : The blood glucose-lowering and -elevating hormones insulin and glucagon are released from the pancreatic islet β- and α-cells, respectively. The intracellular messengers Ca2+ and cAMP have central roles in controlling the secretion of both hormones, but the underlying mechanisms are incompletely understood. READ MORE
