  1. 1. Novel Microfluidic Devices Based on a Thermally Responsive PDMS Composite

    Author : Björn Samel; Göran Stemme; Jörg Kutter; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEMS; microsystem technology; micro total analysis system; lab-on-a-chip; microfluidics; composite actuator; expandable microspheres; PDMS; poly dimethylsiloxane; disposable; wafer bonding; adhesive bonding; PDMS bonding; adhesive PDMS bonding; selective PDMS bonding; microcontact printing; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik;

    Abstract : The field of micro total analysis systems (μTAS) aims at developments toward miniaturized and fully integrated lab-on-a-chip systems for applications, such as drug screening, drug delivery, cellular assays, protein analysis, genomic analysis and handheld point-of-care diagnostics. Such systems offer to dramatically reduce liquid sample and reagent quantities, increase sensitivity as well as speed of analysis and facilitate portable systems via the integration of components such as pumps, valves, mixers, separation units, reactors and detectors. 2. 2. Barnacle Bioadhesive Bonding Formation, Strength and Control

    Author : Mattias Berglin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; barnacle adhesive plaque; poly dimethylsiloxane ; fouling release coatings; bioadhesion; marine biofouling;

    Abstract : The current technology for keeping ship hulls free of marine biofouling requires the use of toxic compounds such as copper, organic biocides and tributyl tin (TBT). The compounds that are released have been shown to have negative effects on non-target organisms, and a worldwide ban of TBT is currently being introduced. READ MORE

  3. 3. Microfluidic Devices for Manipulation and Detection of Beads and Biomolecules

    Author : Mats Jönsson; Ulf Lindberg; Bertil Hök; Johan Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : This thesis summarises work towards a Lab-on-Chip (LOC). The request for faster and more efficient chemical and biological analysis is the motivation behind the development of the LOC-concept. Microfluidic devices tend to become increasingly complex in order to include, e.g. READ MORE

  4. 4. Microfluidic devices for biotechnology and organic chemical applications

    Author : Helene Andersson; KTH; []
    Keywords : microfluidics; beads; SNP; microfabrication; microcontact printing; self-assembly;

    Abstract : Imagine if you could combine the power and capabilities ofan entire laboratory in the palm of your hand. Advances inmicrofluidic chip technology promise to integrate andminiaturize multiple lab processes into a single palm-sizeddevice. READ MORE
